get it to the vet right away. The vet needs to do a deworming. Sounds infested, and worms can cause the poor puppy to die if it has these kind of worms then it probably is infested with all the worms dogs get. There are roundworms, tapeworms, pin worms, whip worms, hook worms. DEADLY.... go now, do not fool around with the poor puppies life. Sounds like the puppy has been through enough already by being abandoned. Do it a favor and get them worms gone.

Congrats on your new addition! Yes, as most people responded, you will need to take her to the vet for this. Although there ARE some over the counter type dewormers available on the market, all those will treat are hookworms and roundworms which CANNOT be seen with the naked eye. What you are talking about (looks like a piece of rice) are TAPEWORM larvae and there is nothing you can buy without a prescription that will get rid of those. Tapeworms come from fleas... not ALL fleas, mind you. A puppy ingests a flea carrying the tapeworm egg and all of a sudden, your puppy has tapeworms. Someone in another post was correct also -- if you can't afford to take your new pup to the vet, please contact the ASPCA in your area and explain your situation to them... I'm sure they will help. Don't waste your money on the over the counter pills or liquid dewormers because, again, they will not treat the type of worms you are describing. The prescription for the tapeworms will probably cost you the same but the vet may charge you an office exam. Good luck to you and remember... you wouldn't NOT take your kid to the doctor if THEY had worms, right? When you assume ownership of an animal, you are responsible for their well-being! Be safe and good luck!

Take her to the VET to get the proper treatment for her type of worms. Take a stool sample so the vet can see what she has. She also needs a series of shots to keep her healthy. You can catch some types of worms from her so make the appt. now. If money is a problem contact the SPCA to find an affordable solution. This little life is depending on you .

Take him to the vet. the over the counter stuff doesnt always work! vets can deworm him in the office and in a day or two the worms will be gone but i have to warn you before hand. you will see worms in his poop but that is completely normal after a dog has been dewormed. after the worms are gone i would suggest putting him on advantage multi or revolution to make sure the worms stay away.

Sounds like you are seeing tape worm. Regular wormers will not get rid of tape. I'm sure though that if the dog has tape, that it also has other worms too.
To get rid of tapeworm, you can get a drug called Praziquantel. This is the generic version of what the vet gives. Most larger pet stores carry this product. If your's doesn't, then the online ones do. I get mine at www.jefferspet.com

i would for sure take her to the vet. sometimes if they are that infested with worms, doing an over-the-counter worming can actually be more harmful to them. if cost is an issue for the vet, make a few phone calls, explain the situation and that you rescued her - some vets will help you out with the cost.

Take her to your local vet. They will weigh the puppy and sell you over the counter dewormer (which will get rid of any type of worm she has) and be able to give you some valuable advice (without a consult) like approximate age, plus advise on things like vaccines, flea control etc...
The puppy will be needing it's vaccines so you will have to take it to the vet if you want to make sure it is completely protected from diseases like parvo, coronavirus, distemper etc...
Talk to your vets nursing staff, they will be happy to help you out.

Take her to the vet right away and he will give you dewormer, or you can go to a department store and buy some. The parasites are living off all the food that the puppy takes in and she may not be getting any nutrients.
