For me it seems to be southern comfort. It caused me to to puke both times I drank it. First time I drank around 3/4 of a pint and 2nd time I drank over 1/2 a fifth though so that might be why.

Also are the impurities that cause hangovers the same ones that cause vomiting?

Here is some info I found:

Clear liquors like vodka, rum and gin are better bets than dark or sweet liquors like bourbon, scotch or tequila because they have fewer congeners. Generally, cheaper liquor will result in a worse hangover than more expensive liquor.

My conclusion:

Drink a fullglass of water before drinkin, take a multi vitamin, and eat a meal. Then drink expensive vodka and you'll be slightly better off than cheap dark liquor.

Vomitting is your body's way of 'cleansing' itself of poisons & it depends on your own body's tolerance to different types of alcohol - according to a friend who used to work in the licensed trade there are over 1000 different types of alcohol (I don't mean alcoholic beverages). It's nothing to do with Southern Comfort - I love the stuff & have done a full 70cl bottle in a night (which I think is roughly equivalent to a fifth) with no ill effect.

Previous answerers have correctly stated that dehydration is the main cause of hangovers. Drinking water before bedtime helps, but if you are very drunk you are going to end up peeing the bed because the body can only absorb so much water at a time. A much better idea is to have a glass of water between each alcoholic beverage.

Lastly, have a good meal with plenty of fluids (not tea, coffee, alcohol or carbonated 'pop') a couple of hours before going out. That will minimise any vomitting or hangover.

EDIT: forget more expensive vodkas. I do smirnoff red on a regular basis - smirnoff blue label is OK but "vladivar ultimate" (expensive AND lethal stuff) is pure hangover juice for me!

I can't drink Southern Comfort anymore because of a violent vomiting epsiode. I find that really sweet and dark drinks, SoCo and Jaegermeister to be exact give the worst hangovers. Of course they also go down really easily and taste quite good.
It is not the impurities that causes vomiting, like everybody else is saying it is an excess of alcohol. I however do believe that they have a lot to do with a hangover. 4 cheap beers make me feel a lot worse the next day than 4 good beers.
Eat a nice meal before you start drinking. Have a glass of water for every alcoholic drink that you consume. Try not to drink in excess. Hahahaha.

It is impurities that cause the vomiting (which is part of the hangover). Also, dehydration can exacerbate the problem, as can low blood sugar. It really depends on whether or not you eat, whether or not you are drinking enough liquids (not just at that particular time!), and the liquor itself.

It isn't the type of alcohol, its how much you drink. As for the impurities that cause hangovers and vomiting...impurities don't cause hangovers. Dehydration causes hangovers. So before you fall asleep, drink a 20 oz bottle of water if you're drunk and you won't have a hangover, or at least not that bad of one.

Alcohol doesn't cause vomiting. Drinking large amounts causes vomiting. And the major cause of hangovers is dehydration combined with lingering toxic buildup. Alcohol is toxic, so you need to learn to drink only a LITTLE AT A TIME. In the amounts you're talking about, you could kill yourself. But you knew that.

Alcohol does not cause vomiting. Vomiting is your bodies' defense mechanism for saving your life. When you vomit, it is usually when your stomach is full, too much beer, or the amount of hard alcohol in your stomach is saying toooo much. Drinking too much too fast can cause you to die. Vomiting is good so you can live. Vomiting is not supposed to feel good. You are supposed to think twice next time, slow down and drink responsibly. Vomiting usually occurs in young people who are trying to get drunk as fast as possible. Mature drinkers realize that drinking is a privilege exercised by adults and moderation is always the best in all parts of our lives.

Hangovers are lack of oxygen in your blood. Vomiting is just your body knowing that it has too much alcohol in it so it gets rid of some.
