Only female mosquitoes actually suck blood, and not all species need it to survive. Most mosquitoes supplement their diet with nectar from plants.
To find sources of fresh human blood, mosquitoes fly toward carbon dioxide in the air we exhale. They're also attracted by heat that comes off our bodies and to chemicals produced by bacteria that live on our skin.
In fact, your particular body chemistry may determine how appealing you smell to a hungry skeeter. This could account for why some people tend to get bitten more often than others.
Different species of mosquitoes prefer different body parts. "Some buzz around your ears and drive you bananas," Willott says. Others target behind your elbows, behind your knees, or your ankles. Knowing which species live in your area can help you figure out which body parts you should cover up or where you should spray the most bug juice.

Yeah the pH level thing is right. We all have a certain chemical to our bodies (kind of like pheromones I guess that supposedly attract the opposite sex? I think those are the ones . .) and some people have higher levels than others. I, for example, itch like hell and get pretty swollen from a skeeter bite. Other people could stand in the middle of a mosquito marsh and not even get touched. Rarr! lol - things like sweating though obviously would make your "chemical" more external which is the reason why mosquitoes are also said to be attracted to sweat.

mosquitos live on blood so want to find mammals with nice warm blood or anything that has blood. they have developed sensory apparatus that senes the presence of carbon dioxide that is expelled by organisms that breath air. like mammals. so when you exhale, they sense it and come a running looking for food. Ticks do the same thing and drop off trees when they sense there is a breathing organism under them.
so hold your breath when outside and you will be safe( until you die)

CO2 that we produce when we exhale. I don't know what it is, but i remember reading it on a machine that you can buy. It releases warm CO2 like humans and will keep the mosquitoes away!

Actually, we don't attract.
It's the "Charles Darwin theory"....'Survival of the Fittest'. Every living organism tries to follow that. And mosquitos find that easier on us...our skin is softer...our blood is salty...and so on.
Now why mosquitos Buzzzzzzzzzz............after they suck our blood? Guess.

Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide (which we exhale), not PH or blood or pheremones.
