Pray for God's guidance in making a fine speech. You will not go wrong this way, He will give you the grace to complete it well. As for other things you can do, practice in front of a mirror. This may seem awkward, but it helps you see your own body language so that you can tweak it and get it right. Practice in front of a few people, like family/friends, and ask for feedback. Their input may bring to light some things you were not aware of. As for the people in the audience, they're imperfect human beings just like you and me. They eat, drink, sleep, shower, and "eliminate" just like anyone else, so you are on equal planes with them, just as you are with everyone. They've probably been in your shoes at one time or another, and have felt nervous too.

you have used the word cure, that means your earlier presentation was not upto the mark, or you failed to make an impact. it's good you want to sincerely improve upon, not feel conscious, and make it good. now firstly, try to understand, that there is a difference between an audience which consists of a mixed one, like for the poloticians' gathering, and the one which comes for presentation, so you may not be a great public speaker, but you could be a good presenter, depending on your specialisation. Here, the audience is more interested in the subject matter, than the speaker waxing eloquent. if the stuff is no good, you can not withhold their interest for long. so the most important thing for you is to prepare well. have your slides, charts, transperencies, projector, and all other audio-visual aids in order, working fine. check out any loop holes in the matter, think how effectively it should be presented, the sequence, and the time factor. you should not drag, or end abruptly. also focus on the possible question- answer session. if you counter any question unexpectedly, do not get nervous or lose your color. no one is know- all, so ask for some time politely and confidently till your next presentation, or tackle the questioner separately, after the session. once you are well-prepared, the confidence will be there. nw about your self-consciousness problem! what is it exactly which makes you conscious? we can not change our looks, but we can appear neat, tidy, and not too over-dressed, you attire should be comfortable and to the occasion. i believe you may perhaps be a teacher, or a student of research, or a medical student? so dress simply, with light make-up, hair in place. no slippling of clothes like models on the ramp! stop worrying about it, sleep well the night before, be confident, carry everthing properly, reach the place in time, not running last minute like Renee Zelweger or Reese witherspoon, that's for the comedy movies, introduce yourself to the audience , and begin. take a deep breath, look directly at the audience, they would react positively. before answering ant question, understand it properly. Practice by speaking in front of your mirror first. When u are satisfied, ask a friend or a roommate to listen while you speak. Ask him to give you an appraisal of what he thinks.
Prepare well and in advance. It helps root out anxiety.
Have a good nights sleep the previous day. It keeps you relaxed.
Have a good breakfast. It helps you focus.
When all is ready and the great moment has arrived, walk to the stage; start by looking straight ahead, not at the audience, but whateveryou can see in the far off distance. As your presentation progresses, you will develop confidence to look into the eyes of the audience and to speak to them.

Just pick a few points on the back of the room and focus in on them. Don't stare like a goldfish or anything, but scan the room without looking at anyone's face so you won't be nervous. And practice your presentation so in the event you get flustered, you'll know your place. Pretend you're presenting to a child, I always feel confident they won't notice if I make a mistake and chances are your audience won't either!

Medication will help. Many singers use Inderal, a beta blocker, to chill out. Many golfers use it to steady nerves.Ativan or Xanax are Benzodiazepines. They are Valium type drugs and will keep you calm. It depends on what your problem is. If you are mainly inexperienced, practice in front of your friends. Write out your presentation and memorize it. Either memorize it entirely or just the main points. I found in giving presentations to college classes I was nervous only when I was unprepared. Good luck. You will do well.

Understand what you are going to talk about..concentrate on the subject at hand and look at the audience..just above their heads..that way you won't be nervous at the offset. As you get into the lecture, you will grow in confidence and then you can make eye contact as to put across any major points.
I always involve the audience in my lectures..asking them what they know of the topic at hand first off. This gives you the clue as to where they are up to and where you can begin explaining things. It also INVOLVES them and makes them be more attentive.

When I was in high school I almost paniced and fled before going out in front of a banquet crowd for a play. What will happen is called the butterflies and is almost the same thing as roller coaster belly. What you have to do it set your mind that instead of being scared of this feeling you will enjoy it and even take it and use it in your performance.

Everyone's been a 1st time speaker, everyone wants you to be a success. Keep in mind that your audience is backing you & not bagging you!

To stay calm at least 20 minutes before the presentation and remember that once your out there you can only give your best. Also try to not to focus on friends or family in the crowd they can make you more nervous, whether they mean to or not.
