Because of the strain on the money. States were running out of program money A couple had to borrow from others. Some Hospitals went under due to strain of Illegals. And the strain is too much for many towns and cities can bare. You can look all this up on the web.
Again it is not that the people mean too--its just the results.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we face the problem maybe something could be done. But it is like it is more important to blame or deny it.
Some are causing problems also with bad behavior and this adds to it. Rude behavior. If people will call it what it is instead of defending it maybe we could work from there.
I personally have other reasons---I feel we have enough people to care for here. And more no mater what race isn't helping.
If you bury your head to the cause of things-you get no where.
Even when I have a dog that causes problems--I don't hate the dog. But you have to look at the cause and work from there.
And yes I think they cause problems(intentional or not). And some who don't belong here have been doing some real nasty and I will point it out. They don't belong here. And we need to screen better and close the leaks that let them in for the protection of all.
And yes many are nice, But that doesn't solve the problems that are caused-- face them first is the first step.

I think that it's probably because the cost of gas a risen so much making people more concerned about money. Which causes people to realize that jobs are being lost to foreigners because they will work for a cheaper wage and can be more effictive. Now people are freaking out thinking that we are being invaded by some sort of job stealing aliens which I don't understand because if you think about it we were all foreigners at one point. I also think that the frustration with immigrants is stemming from the frustration that is coming from the Iraq situation and with President Bush. I think that it's kinda mean to start putting up fences along the Mexican border because basically we're saying we discriminate against Mexicans. We're not putting up a bunch of borders along the Canada side. America is called the "melting pot" for a reason.

Because, Bush was in a panic by his rating (Americans are fed up with him) and need to divert the hostility somewhere. Isn't it ironic that way back in his campagin, he mentioned the immigration topic and NEVER did anything...until now...when he's in hot water.
It is a clever 'deflection' and all the red-necked, witless, idiots out there took the ball and ran down the field with it...and Bush is loving every minute of it too.
It's too bad so many people don't bother to get the facts, they just run their big mouths off not knowing some important things about immigration;
1) Many of the so-called illegals have been here between 15-20 years, have established lives and are law-abiding people just trying to survive.
2) In 1986 our Congress passed an immigration bill that allowed those who entered illegally to be exhonerated if they came forward.
3) We have illegals coming from Asia; China, Korea, etc., not just Mexico.
4) Americans would never think of doing the jobs many illegals do, and for the low pay and dangerous working conditions they deal with daily.
We are all decendants of immigrants in this country, unless you are Native American, and even they came from another place.

Suddenly? Where have you been? This has been going on for a very long time. It's just that lately the news media and other sources are finally talking about it more. People come into this country illegally, break many of our laws, steal the resources for our citizens and those here legally, steals jobs that out people can do, use other people's social security numbers and Ids (and the cops don't do anything to them for that - yet if it were a citizen we'd find ourselves in jail). The simple and best thing to do is just put armed troops on our borders and stop this invasion once and for all.

You must be rather young. This is not a new problem. It is a problem that we have struggled with our government for more than thirty five years to get under control.
Have you not heard of the two previous amnesty bills that were issued over the last twenty years.
Our immigrations laws used to be much tougher. Personally, I would like to see them put back in place like they were back in the fifties, and sixties. Anyway, Americans gave these criminals amnesty twice before, millions of them, and all that did was get them to ignore our laws more, and show even less respect for our country. The garbage they spill about Mexico is not true. I am an American who lived there for almost two years, and I was amazed to how I had been misled.
The corruption is no different than it is here, and at current Mexico's economy is in better shape than America's. Mexico is the third richest nation. That is because of the immigration laws that protect the citizens from having all that they have earned stolen from them by countries that show them no regard for them. They only want what they can steal.

Many of us have been watching the travesty occurr all around us for at least 6 years. I was appalled at the 1986 Amnesty and predicted the situation we are now facing. There have been many black days, at least in my state CA such as the court's reversing the peoples decission/will (Prop. 186) which mandated that illegal children would not be educated by public schools and that education was to be in English. This was voted on and passed by a large majority in California. The court overturned this. One man overroad the will of the people. That was truly the beggining of the end and the start of all this chaos. Trust me when I say to you that this problem has been festering for quite some time in California. It has now become a nation wide concern to a major degree.
Foreigners have not been kept out. They have always been screened and admitted if worthy, potential US citzens.

Mad for Mac-you are well informed. :) We need more smart non-ignorant people like yourself around here. Then America would be less discriminatory.
I found it pretty sad how Bush was sending all these soldiers to the Mexico border several weeks ago while at the exact same time they were having terrorist activity in Canada. You think they would be more concerned about the Canadian border ya know? But oh yes, we must get those darn undocumented Mexicans because they are much more of a threat to us than the terrorists... *sigh*

This is not a recent phenomena. Regionally, the problem of dealing with the problems presented by those who illegally enter the country for years. There is the fear that enemies of our country will cross into the United States through our reasonably porous borders. However, the likelihood is small (not non-existent but small since one 9/11 terrorist did enter through Canada). It is more likely that those who have been concerned about the influx of illegal aliens into the United States are using this fear as a convenient justification to develop broad-based support to change the way we deal with immigration and guard our borders.

We need border security. America is too vulnerable with such weak borders.. Every country has a right to protect itself. When the illegals marched in our streets I think that brought a lot of attention to how many undocumented people were actually here. Its really not safe when you have that many folks here and a lot of them are felons, drug smugglers, and maybe terriosts too, and God only knows what else. They're not just from one country but from several. Try going to Mexico or any other country undocumented and see what happens.

Birgit and pianist are correct. The whitehouse raised the issue to distract public attention away from the increasingly unpopular war effort. There's nothing new or pressing about illegal immigration. Besides, the administration needs some excuse for all the concentration camps they've been building around the country.
