I have a chicken egg that is possibly fertile. Whenver I look at it there's a very small dark spot and some faint lines on one side of it. I've been keeping it warm with an incubator I made, using a plastic box, towels, a heating pad and a small container of water for humidity.

I've only had the egg for two days, but I wonder...am I seeing things or is it really fertile?

what do you think?

What I meant by looking at is with a flash light.

Sounds like you have a fertile egg ^.^ . You might want to get a reptile terrarium Hygrometer and Themometer to help out in the incubator. Sometimes they're sold seperately and sometimes they're sold as a single unit. It'll be one of the best investments you'll make with your home made incubator! I don't know what I'd do without mine!

Regarding the egg - it'll get darker with more red lines as the embryo develops. Sounds like you're doing a great job. Update us when the egg hatches! ^.^

Where did you get the egg? If it was at a farm, then probably. If it was in a box of eggs, it might have been fertile but would be dead by now. From my expierience, the dot might be the embryo forming, so I would keep it warm and humid like you are and check to see if it develops at all. Wait at least another three weeks, because some eggs are very late to crack. If you see it's developing, don't trash it. Even if the three weeks are up.
