I'm anxious to know if anyone has an experience with this, as it always seems to take so long for my social worker to return a call. I am considering moving from va to fl, and my daughter has medicaid. She had open heart surgery at a week old, and recieves synagis shots and at 1200 bucks a shot a month, its impossible to afford without medicaid. So you can see why Im hoping it will and am curious to know if the insurance just transfers or if you have to reapply, and if i have to reapply is there a certain time before youre recognized as a citizen. Ive googled about this but to no avail. Thanks for any help.

I am sure it varies state to state on how long it takes.
I would call the Social Services office in the state you are moving to, and ask there. Check and see if they have a website, you may be able to get information there, directly from the page, or in email. You may even be able to fill out forms online.
When I moved, the transfer was within a months time, but again, it could vary, so in your situation, best to get the information first. Also, when you talk to people, get their name and title, and make a note of what they said, including the date and time! This could prove very important if/when you get conflicting information.

Each state's medicaid program is slightly different from the other states. But beauracracies are all the same. You will have to close your case in VA and open a new one in FL. (Different states don't usually have the same group plans to choose from.)

You need to contact the social service department in the county you plan to move into. They will answer all your questions. Most Medicaid goes back and pays all bills for the past three months.

each state is different.you will have to apply for medicaid in the state you are moving to. I had the same problem. catholic charities or the red cross or the salvation army may be able to help with medical expenses.

no you have to close it in the state you're in now and then apply to the other state. you can't have one open in two states maybe if you call the worker and talk to her they could work out something so you dont have to pay for it. good luck
