One that you can afford to drive and maintain. For example a diesel engine Mercedes is great on the wallet fuel wise, but financially a pain in the butt to have to repair.
My mechanic and I were out car shopping for me yesterday, if you have a friendly mechanic take him/her with you what a bonus, and he kept steering me towards the tried and true. Toyota, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen. I've decided I don't need the extra monthly bill and am going to fix the Camaro I put into a coma last year and keep the Jeep (junk!) for emergencies.

Honetly, the new Toyota Yaris kinda rocks. I've been test driving some cars, and with the gas milage, storage and pick up of this little monster, I think it's a good buy!

depends on how old you are, your personality, money, etc. personally id get 2 cars. one beater and one you love. i drive a ford tempo around myself thats not that great but it goes. i just finished fixing up a wrecked toyota supra, and its the car of my dreams. if you can do it this is the best way to go. cheap weekday car, your best on weekends and show.
