Im a only child, no brothers or sisters & have lost both of my parents. I live alone & will run out of my inheartance money next month with no place to go. Ive filed for disability and social security and medicade because i dont have any health insurance. IM SO AFRAID OF BEING LEFT ALONE. The only thing thats keeping me from really hurting myself is my 21 yr old son who I love dearly. I have been divorced 2 yrs. The only thing ive been doing for the past week is drinking nyquil, bunches of benadryl and 1-2 sleeping pills 24/7 so i dont have to think. I cant work, i have no money coming in except what is left of my inheartance. Ive filed for social security, medicade and disability. Im afraid that I will run out of my inheartance before i find out the answer is on disability. PLEASE HELP ME !!!!! IM SO AFRAID....... Renee

This question was listed under mental health. Do you have a diagnosed mental illness or some reason to expect you can get disability?

Several people have quite simply stated- get a job. Of course, it's not always that easy.

If you have a mental illness and have reason to expect you can get disability- remember it can take years even under the best of circumstances. Get a lawyer as soon as you can- they take a percentage so you don't need $ up front. And NAMI.org has a forum for most if not all mental illness diagnosis and for homeless. I'm on the bipolar forum and the homeless forum. You can reach me there.

Remember that the panic will do you in if you let it. Pull your head together and do what you need to do. Remember the serenity prayer. Let go of what you have no control over and take control and do something about what you can. Worry just takes energy that could be put to better use doing something constructive. And worry blocks the thinking process. You've got to let go of the worry and the panic- you can and you will. You have no real choice.

Renee, you need to get a grip! Put the Nyquil and the Benadryl down. Put the sleeping pills away. Perhaps your son can help you get something from social services. You should absolutelylook into it. See what they can do for you. You need to get some kind of counseling to deal with your feelings. I wish you all the best.

It took my mother in law 2 years to collect her disability. She fought it in court and finally got a grand total of $80,000 in back pay and now she's getting a monthly check as well. She had to buy a trailer and had her son fix it up. She did have family to help though. People keep telling you to get a job but I'm sure you have a good reason as to why you can't work. Do you have friends? And going to a church will help too. There are alot of compassionate people in places like that who are happy to be your friend and to help with what they can.

Renee, it is time to get some help. Why are you unable to work? Getting a job will raise your self-esteem. If you are truly disabled, then the social service agencies in your county should be able to point you in the right direction to qualify for public assistance. Stop screwing around with self medicating, and get some help.

WHOA! This seems like another case of the "I need to get a job!" Seriously, I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but does it have to take all this for reality to kick in? You need to get some sort of job. You can live off of money given to you if you were a Hilton, or some other celebrity or super rich person, but obviously you aren't. You need to become more independent and get up, and find some sort of income that you can say that you've recieved other than from someone else. You don't want to feel the pain of such thoughts, but I believe that you need this sort of push. GET A JOB! GET A JOB! GET A JOB! GET A JOB!
FILE NOW! FILE NOW! STOP TRYING TO KILL YOURSELF ALL BECAUSE YOU'RE ABOUT TO RUN OUT OF MONEY! MONEY ISN'T EVERYTHING, BUT YOU DO HAVE A SON!

I suggest you should find someone quick. You need to get out there and ask for help, i'm sure there are people like you in this situation. There is no need to worry things will find there way around. Life is too precious to give up now, and slow down on the pills, because honey you have to face "REALITY " sooner or later and slow down on spending too much ,you need every dollar till you get back on your feet and i' sure you will.

All the best

well first off why can't you work? if you are diabled then you should be allowed SSI and medicaid, does your son work? maybe he could help if he did
taking pills won't solve money or housing issues living alone isn't that bad get a good security system and maybe a dog you should be able to get along and maybe you need to go get professional help to get your life on track it sound like you had it on track once being married and had a child good luck

honey you are in the same position as my mother in law, sort of, the best thing to do is to find a job that you can do, i find working takes my mind off things, if you cant work then run, if you cant run then walk, if you cant walk then do something, keep moving. the moment you stop your brain will kick in and ruin everything. dont write a book, not sure why just dont
