Can anybody out there tell me how do you get involved in being a foster parent? What website to go to? Who to call? Where to go? Or any information that will be useful and helpful in me becoming a foster parent

Contact your local children and family human services in your area. I am a former foster parent. You'll have to complete x # of hours of training to be a foster parent. In Illinois it's called PRIDE classes. I believe it's 60 hours of class room training, a home study will have to be done, finger prints, back ground check etc.

Now on the down side of Foster care Parents. If you're going into this for the $$$$$ there isn't any ....You'll receive a token amount for fostering but trust me on this it is never enough to meet the extras that are needed to raise a child.

I live in Kentucky. I have a orphanage in the area that will take you and train you to be a foster parent. Also another place is the lighthouse youth services. You need to go to people you know that are foster parents and they would be glad to help you get started and give you the number. I know this because I was a foster child from the age 3 years old to 18 years old. I hope your heart is in it, because it is not that good of money. These children just want to be loved and feel like they are wanted. Most of children had parents who neglected them, beat them, etc. If your heart is truly in it you will find an agency in your area. Look and talk to orphanages. You may want to google this in.

Foster Parent agency of your area(for example: Northern Kentucky). That is where I live. I typed it in and find all kinds of websites to go to. Hope that helps!!

Sincerely,
Mother of Two

Depending on the state you're in..
In Georgia, you can contact your county office and speak to someone in the placement unit. You'll have to be screened (GBI sex offender, criminal background checks, prior CPS history, etc.), and your home evaluated. In addition, you'll have to take IMPACT classes, which will help prepare you for being a foster parent and help you to decide that it is right for you or not. I hope you call, and I hope that it works out for you! There aren't enough homes, and there are always some children in need of foster parents! :)

look it upon the computer to find a local place. my dad works licensensing foster parents, finalising adoptions, etc. his work has big events all the time to get people to sign up.
its great what ur doing, but be prepared. a huge mistake many foster parents make is thinking the kids they take in will be greatfull. chances are, they won't be. remember what these kids have been through! they won't trust u& won't listen to u for a while at least. don't back down, these kids need homes. just be prepared!!!!!!!

There are classes you can take given by the Department of Social and health Services. Be prepared. Most of them have been sexually abused. The teenagers will steel from you because they need "Stuff" they can call their own. It's always a heartbreaker when you lose them. DSHS moves them around so you wont get too attached, or returns them to their abusive parents. Be aware, there are not enough case workers to go around, so you will not have a lot of support.

Contact your local welfare or children and families agencies. They should be able to tell you how to go about it and who to talk to. Adoption agencies may also have that information. Other than that all I can really suggest is looking it up on the web under things like "foster parenting" or go to ask.com and ask your questions. Your county and state rep's offices may also be able to give you suggestions. Hope this helps!

Look in the yellow pages or yellow pages .com. Then they will direct you to take classes on how to be a good foster parent.
After that, you have your home inspected to see if it is a safe and loving place for a child to be raised.
Good luck. It's a great thing that you are doing.
