It is the love of one's enemies which distinguishes a true disciple of Jesus Christ. An example from the cross is found In (Luke 23:34 ), " Forgive them Father , for they do not know what they are doing ".
Such an attitude is of the Lord's teaching in the Sermon On The Mount, " Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.." ( Matthew 5:44)
Even though God can stop people from hurting us, He still allows people to make their own choices. The choice that this person made to hurt you was a choice against God. God in his time will make people pay for their sins if they do not repent. But more than that He longs to show mercy.
God often does not explain what is happening in our life. He is more concerned that we know Him as a God of all comfort in our struggles than that we know why things go as they do. He suffers along with us ( Hebrews 4:15). In time you will learn how the hurt this person has caused you will help you to experience God as you never have before. He causes all things to work together for good ( Romans 8:28). With God's help you will overcome the hurt, He cares for you so much.
God said " vengeance is mine..." ( Romans 12:19). God is the righteous judge. He will repay men and women for their deeds. You must see God's desire for repentence first of all. God is not willing for people to perish. He is ready to forgive all who come to him confessing their sins. But if people will not acknowledge their sin to Him, He will punnish them. If this person will not acknowledge his sin to you, rest assured that God will make him pay. But you must pray for his repentance. God's plan is much better in the end.
You cannot excuse or justify your own sinful behavior by not wanting to forgive this person. You cannot put it down to a reaction from what he has done to you. God will makes you accountable for your unforgiving attitude.

It also says, in the bible, to turn the other cheek. And by the meter that you have judged others, so will you be judged. Also Forgive us our trespasses, AS WE FORGIVE those who trespass against us. If you bind the sins of another here on earth, then you are also binding your own sins to yourself.

It is best to let go, and let God. When we harbor ill will on someone else we create a whole new problem. This will not cause anyone to go to hell (there is only one sin that will do that, which is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit and deny God), but it can make you sick by holding on to old injuries and resentments.

Give it to God, and let Him handle it. Ask Him to heal your soul of the injury that you have suffered, and pray for the redemption of the person that harmed you. It may be hard to pray for this person, initially, but just keep doing it like you mean it, and before you know it, you will.

Forgiving that person does not mean that you have to be friends with them anymore, that might be unwise, especially if they refuse to repent. But the forgiving part is for YOU, not necessarily for them. That is what my bible tells me.

No it is not possible for someone to go to hell just because you didn't want to forgive that person. If you chose not to forgive someone that is up to you. We cannot be responsible for someone else to go to hell or heaven. God is the judge of that.
The Bible says, “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins,” (Matthew 6:14-15).

If you choose not to forgive them then according to the Bible you have sinned as well.

My opinion is don't worry to much about what the other person is doing and whether or not they are going to hell, that is really only Gods concern.

God Loves YOU

The true and maybe bad part is that the person who does not forgive has the more sin in most cases. They will be judged by the Lord for what they did to you. But you will also be judged if you do not forgive them I know that is hard in the case of Rape and or Murder But forgiveness is a key part of our righteousness not theirs.

On the contrary... if YOU do not forgive him, you cannot enter into the presence of the Lord.

True. If he was to go to Heaven, what you feel will not stop him.

And a "real christian" should have learned forgiveness.

No, i don't believe it is, becuase no matter what, as long as they ask forgiveness from the Lord, and know what they did was wrong, they will not end up going to hell. You have no control over it, God does. Whatever you may believe God might be

If a Christian sins (like holding grudges, hating ones enemy, or unforgiveness), it is against his will. One who is regenerate falls rather than dives into sin; he resists rather than embraces it. Any dead fish can float downstream. It takes a live one to swim against the flow. Christians still experience temptations and can sometimes fall into sin, but they are no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:6). They have God’s Holy Spirit within them to help them say no to temptation, and to convict their conscience of wrongdoing when they do sin.

You are not in charge of others' salvation, only your own, and Jesus made it quite clear that God would "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." In other words, God will forgive us in the same way we forgive others...if we give others forgiveness, forgiveness will be given to us. If we withold that grace, it will be witheld from us.

the real question is, if someone goes to hell-fire for eternity because you don't forgive them, do you want to have that on your record, having had the ability to save a soul from everlasting doom; and chooseing not to?
love one another.
