Okay...MOST of the theists I've met assume so. Sorry for generalizing.

It does seem to be the assumption behind a lot of the questions directed at atheists.
So basically does that mean the theists do not recognize the existence of an internal sense of morals or truth or purpose in people?

interesting. does that mean they think they would run amok themselves if they didn't believe in god? even more interesting.

There are very few theists on this site. I'm a Christian, but not a theist. Theists support theocracy, one state, one religion.

The problem I see with your question, is you define theists, as any one opposed to atheists. In fact, atheists reject the idea that God is involved with politics. You've got the tail, wagging the dog.

I can usually tell whether a person is theist, atheist, or otherwise by the questions and answers they post. Your question implies that you are a good person.

Many of those who claim to be Christian, wouldn't know a theist if they themselves were labeled a witch, and burned at the stake. That's what Theists do, in any religion.

Because they think that not using religious morals/guidelines automatically makes people non-moral. I'm an agnostic theist and I know just because I don't do relgious activities doesn't mean that I'm immoral. I have plenty of good 'traditional' religious morals, despite not being a traditional church goer.
And if you think about it, there's plenty of theists that may claim to be devout church goers, but not all actually practice thier proclaimed church morals.

Because human laws are based upon morals and morals descend from the belief of a God. Christianity is a good example. All moral teaching are originally taken from the Holy Bible. Don't steal, don't lie, don't cheat, don't murder etc,. So, it's just automatically assumed that if you don't believe in God then you don't believe in his moral teaching or the law.

Theists live in a world of their own, which is not real but dreamworld. Their minds are conditioned, not to imagine beyond their world. Anything beyond their range of imagination is automatically wrong. Never mind these people. They are the same kinds, the likes of who could not imagine first that the earth is round. These are the kind of people who need intelligent convincing.

This is going to get me some nasty messages...

Generally I've found that people who assume those things about we athiests are ignorant, scared, mindless people who cannot think for themselves. They assume that we are evil people who will only live our lives to make ourselves happy (which is essentially what every human on earth does, we're just evil for it because we're not Christian.). I've also found that the only people who really get offended or up in arms about athiests are Christians. They feel more like our athiesm is a personal smite to jesus. They just can't seem to accept that most athiests don't believe in jesus or any other god. It's their own problem, but they love to try and force their beliefs down our throats because the "bible tells them to spread the word of god." Whatever...shut up when I tell you I'm not interested.

Not all of us think athesist are cold and have no morals. One of the closest friends is an atheist. I disagree with him, but that doesn't mean that I think he is cold and without morals. I think he is a great husband, a great friend and a great guy to have on your side.

They are all brainwashed and unbelievers of themselves.
An atheist (such as myself) are strong and free and do not need outside moral support from mythological tales and false hope. We are the strongest of all, mentally, morally, socially, politically & are often highly educated and scientifically keen.

atheists represent 'the opposition' and theists have always labeled those of opposing beliefs in a negative manner. not only that, go back and read the historical records and you'll see that often times it's led to blood shed, violence, death, etc...

it's always easier to plead one's case with a weapon like fear at your disposal.

i didn't say it was right.....

this is a great question. people see their religion (mainly christians) as the origins opf morality. they belelive that morals revolve around the bible and that those who beleive in it (and god) are morale people.

us atheists, since were against or opposite of christians, are seen as opposite in every way. if theyre moral, were not. if theyre warm and caring were cold anduncaring.

it an assumption, an idiotic and uneducated assumption. be happy knowing that if we ARE opposites and we atheists are smart....well you fill in that blank

:D
