He has red cheeks but not too much and his head was a little hot, along with his palms. He has drank some water, but I was wondering if he could still be dehydrated from the sun and is there any danger that I need to worry about. I gave him 2 tylenols and made he drink some more water. He's now fallen asleep. Should I be worrried?

Yes, that is too much sun and YES he would be dehydrated. He may have sun sickness, in which you need to give him something with electrolytes such as gatorade/powerade.

Nine hours is a long time to be in the sun at any age, however the young are especially at risk for dehydration, heat stroke, heat exhaustion, etc. What I would suggest is reapplying sunscreen every 4 hours (find something waterproof with an SPF of at least 45) and make sure he's drinking water and something with electrolytes (think Gatorade or Pediolite depending on his age). For his cheeks, use aloe vera. You should not be worried, he's fine! Just tired from a long day at the pool. Any other questions or advice, let me know!

hes just a bit sunburned. the Tylenol is good because it probably hurts a little bit where he is red. u r dng a good thing hydrating him with water though. i assume he is older than a toddler because u gave him tablets of Tylenol. he will def sleep well because he has been swimming and the Tylenol, plus the sun tends to make u drowsy. if u can have someone go t the store and get some Gatorade or pedialyte...also where he is hot, the best thing to put on him is aloe,it will cool down the problem areas..if he isn't gng to the bathroom r cnt produce tears that is a prob...just keep an eye on him i am sure he is fine...but in case ur really worried his pediatritian has an after hours number that u can call to voice concerns....good luck

1st if you are very worried at all go to the Dr. But, very much time in the pool is gonna wipe a kid out. Keep pushin fluids, & cool him with a wash cloth if he still feels hot to the touch. Did he have sunblock reapplied & fluids during the day? Those are things I would take into consideration if it was one of my kids. If he is acting rummy or dizzy I would ck with a Dr. He is most likely ok, & pooped out

no he should be ok

but keep hydrating him anytime he wakes up

sounds like mild heat stroke to me

if he gets an elevated temperature pack him into an ice bath

it was irresponsible of you to let him out in the sun for that long

so try and be more cautious from now on and make sure he uses sunscreen and has plenty to drink all day long

Wake him up, feed him water and/or gatorade until his urine is a normal, light yellow color, then he may be allowed to sleep, which he probably needs.
