Usually the vehicle can simply be called in to your Insurance company and they will overnight you a new temporary insurance card. In the meantime use your old insurance card to cover the new vechicle, particularly if you have a 24-hour claims department and you'll be fine. If you're not previously insured, have a copy of your insurance information faxed and carry it with you in the vehicle until you recieve the card.

Not necessarily. If it is convenient and you have all the paperwork on your new vehicle at your fingertips before you take delivery of your car, then make the call. The insurance company is going to ask you a bunch of questions about the car, so trying to do it without the paperwork is useless. It 's o.k. to call your insurance company as soon as you get the new car home and take care of it. I have done it many times in California. If you already are insured with a particular company, they will cover you as an insured driver on the new car while driving it home.

Yes. I just bought a car about 2 months ago. The dealership called the insurance company who was insuring the car I was trading in. The insurance company switched the insurance over during the phone call. The next bill from them showed the changes in insurance rates. It was all really quite easy.

Just tell your agent the date that you'll take delivery. They'll make sure you're covered on that date. Most dealerships won't hand over the keys without proof of insurance anyway.
If you already have insurance (but not with an SR-22) most policies will cover newly acquired vehicles immediately as long as you notify them within 30 days. The'll need to know the delivery date and coverage and billing will be effective on that date.

If you already have insurance on your current vehicle and are just transferring the plate and insurance over you can call your agent and transfer the insurance or even add a policy with just a phone call. You have up to ten days to get it done, however!

You can't drive a new car off the lot without insuarnce on it. No bank will insure a new car and let you drive it off without proof of insurance....they want to know you are protected since they have a stake in the vehicle! Hope that helps!

In California, if you have current insurance, it covers a new car purchase for 30 days. Any car dealer would know the answer in your particular state though.

Most State Laws Require it
You need to insure it before the dealership even lets you drive away with it. In most cases they need what is called a binder. All Lien Holders make you insure your vehicle.

Absolutely...call the insurance company from the dealership and they will put a binder on it and bill you later. This assures that you can drive it home legally, fully covered with insurance.
