I work in a call center & take on average 50-60 technical calls per shift. From time to time get calls from Doctors (mostly males). How do I know this? Because they feel the need to let me know.

I always wanted to ask them why they felt it was necessary for me to know they are a doctor of whatever. Are they expecting extra consideration?

They feel speicial which in my opinion I think they should. They worked extra hard to get where they are at. In my community doctors and lawyers do get special privledges.

If you spent that much money and time in school, you would have that much ego too.
There are a few fresh graduates who do appear to be flaunting their title.

In normal conversion the title Mr. or Ms. is assumed. If they have a different title such as Dr. or Rev. they will use it. This is proper.

Would you have a problem if a minister called and said this is Rev. Jones?

If I'd spent 8+ years of training/schooling to earn that title I would probably do the same.

The use of the title often gets themselves more respect. For whatever reason, they probably want to feel like they need respect from you. I'm guessing it's because they are embarrassed that they can't figure out their problem, so they are trying to use their social status to make up for their embarrassment.

Excellence deserves to be recognized.

If you earned the title with several years of additional schooling and all those student loans, you would want to be addressed as Dr. as well, wouldn't you?

they are probably making sure you don't call them mr. or mrs. because it woud be legally incorrect for you to do that. I'm sure they are also used to calling themselves by the dr. title because they work in a profession where it is very important to announce that title to their patients/fellow professionals.

I think if you spent half you life in school, you would want something out of it too... They are proud and self-rightous. Oh well, deal with it.

talking about yourself to anyone would let them know about you and preventing you to ask him further questions.

this will trim off the time of talking.
