The weather has been very hot for June.. and I just recently added 12 gallons of envio blue dye to keep the vegetation down which I have done before. Have not had this problem before and now have a smelly nasty mess in my beautiful lake. Have lost some fish also. Any advice on how to prevent this or how to clean up the mess would be greatly appreciated. Also, we jet ski and swin in this lake, is there a health concern

Was the dye the same brand as before. It may have been contaminated.

Sound to me like you added a chemical which not only keeps down vegetation but lake life too. Amphibians are the most susceptible to any environmental change, especially manmade and especially their babies. With all the death in your lake you have changed the aerobic bacteria into anaerobic bacteria(they smell). Get rid of as much death as you can and find a way to aerate your water-pumps with sprays that go up, etc. After a week or two of sufficient aeration the bacteria will revert back to aerobes and clean up the mess for you

you need to speak to someone involved in pond/lake cleaning. Maybe go as far as calling a government office for help or asking them where they can direct you to get the problem taken care of. If this is also used by humans, I would definetly get ahold of someone to get it taken care of. Even if it turns out to not be harmful to humans, better to be safe then sorry.

I would be really concerned about a health concern. You should have the lake tested.....

chances are they weren't lonesome. maybe not enough food for them all? it's normal for things to thrive and then die out in starvation. you killed all their food and subsequently starved them to death. it will settle. leave it alone for awhile. don't eat anything from it. if you have it dammed up... open the dam for a bit.
