Jesus would say, "One must be reborn."
Gandhi had the third eye, but never needed to acknowledge it.

The third eye is seeing the simple truth of ones life and the lives of others in context of the world events, and how we participate in mass ignorance. It is seeing the nature of ourselves and leading a life away from the ignorance.

Lessons leading to seeing may be personal tragedy, disease or hardship and also blessings. Rarely is spiritual awakening taken without life's hardships and witness to deliverance. The human evolves from birth to eventually become a seer. It is unavoidable. This may not be advanced by force or intention.

One commits to spiritual learning while involved with basic survival and portions time according to priorities.

The seeking is important, and many learn early the only way is to find a proper teacher. The individual has his own karmic rights of trial to pass, and it doesn't matter which direction he goes, the karmic clock ticks at the same pace. The evolution may not be accelerated, but the individual may retard the progress through subscription to ignorance. It's like driving a car down hill, all this power to go faster, but gravity is doing a sufficient amount of accelerating, but the driver is cautious or frightened or careless and applies the brakes improperly.

The mind is powerful, but that does not necessitate a direct path to the proper questions. A young seeker is drowning in questions, hoping to come to realization, visions of the third eye. Questions themselves lead away from the truth, but also complete stillness also leads away. Enlightenment may be achieved by experience, but it may not be shared, except through the limits of spoken language, and then only a sliver of the truth may be explained. The third eye, ability to see, to understand and then to base a worldly action on the perception defeats the importance of the tool. It becomes a long journey around in a circle, to find yourself back where you started, as an ignorant human.
The thirsty soul is a camel in a vast desert. A camel may journey on one unique path across the ever changing wind shaped dunes. So it is different for each, and some may evolve to a higher plane of spiritual awareness, but most are stuck in conditions of the mind, living thousands of lifetimes before advancing a millimeter closer to the sun.

Well, the real third eye located at the top of your skull cannot be activated because your skull covers it. Many animals (including humans) have a third eye that is sensitive to light.
