Really I just need help for a friend. She just moved here from NY, and is in really bad shape. Can someone give me ideas to help her out? She needs help with meds, her hands and feet are peeling skin really bad. She can't go to a doctor because she is not making enough money. Please help!

If she doesn't see a Dr, the peeling and sores will get infected and she could die from septecimia. Try to find a free clinic in your area. Keep her away from ANYTHING that contains sugar and try to keep the amount of carbohydrates really low. Basically, no sugars (including fruit since they are a big source of sugar), no rice, potatoes, breads or cereals. She can eat all the veggies she wants with a few exceptions...no beets, corn, onions or carrots..they all contain a lot of naturally occurring sugars. She can have meat with no gravies or sugary sauces like BBQ sauce.

Just so you know...I'm diabetic.

Watch out about her skin peeling. If it is discolored, it can easily become gangrene (don't think I spelled that right). There are diabetic lotions and cremes that can be used that are specially formulated for diabetics. There might be a free clinic in your area, or some type of diabetic foundation thats in NY.
Her medication needs to be taken no matter what.
My family has many diabetics, so I know all the unfortunate things that can happen with this condition.
If worse comes to worse, she might be able to order prescriptions over the internet through a drug discount plan. I don't know if they're coming in from Canada or something, but I have heard of the programs offering the same quality drugs, but much cheaper.
Hope this helps.

I would have her apply for assistance through medicare or medicaid. I would also call around and look for a clinic that is based on income. She needs these meds and with a little determination she'll be able to get treated.

Go on the Atkins diet. She can get indigent help at her local county hospital.

Call the county/state welfare office, and get her to a doctor.
