NO!

Cocoa powder isn't sweetened and is much more concentrated than hot cocoa mix. Trust me, your cake won't come out right unless you use the real thing.

One tip: Instead of greasing and flouring your cake pan, spray it with cooking spray and dust with cocoa powder. It makes the finished cake prettier!

No cocoa powder is an ingredient in hot cocoa mix. If you are wanting to make hot cocoa but don't have a mix, you can make your own out of milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and a little vanilla extract on the stovetop. I make it in the winter for guests, it's super simple, but you always get extra points for making it yourself. The exact recipe can be found at allrecipes.com . Good luck with the cake, I wouldn't think it would hurt too much, keep in mind you are adding additional sugar, and getting less cocoa per teaspoon than you would with straight cocoa powder.

Hot cocoa and cocoa powder are different.

Hot cocoa mix has other ingredients such as powdered milk, sugar and other flavorings in it.

Cocoa for baking is sold on the same isle as flour and sugar in the super market.

You might be able to make a chocolate cake with hot cocoa mix, but not by using it as a replacement for the cocoa. That would be a totally different recipe.

cocoa is cocoa, the hot cocoa boxes for chocolate milk drinks has added sweatner's to it, cocoa powder for baking is very bitter. the cake recipe says add cocoa and sugar, they mean the unsweetened kind. i have never tried with the other kind, though, if i did use the sweetened cocoa, i would not add sugar, it will be too sweet. that is the only thing that will come of it.

The mix for instant cocoa has sugar added to it. Taste some unsweetened cocoa powder and you'll understand why. I would not want to use the instant mix for a cake because the instant is so much more expensive than the unsweetened baker's cocoa. How many cups do you need?

It's usually a mixture of cocoa powder, sugar and other additives. I probably wouldn't use it for chocolate cake. Maybe you can make a few cupcakes to see how they turn out first.

No, hot chocolate has sugar in it and it is a milk chocolate powder. Cocoa powder is a non sweetened, powdered form of pure chocolate. It would not work.

I don't believe so. Cocoa powder is not sweet, but mix for hot cocoa is.
