I'm not a historian or anything, but I believe it was black cats that were banned, believing they were witch cats.
It's so sad that black cats have gotten such a bad rep.
They are cute, soft, intelligent, love to talk to ya,eloquent cats. They are so clever too.
I love them, as I do all cats..

During the Witch hunts, cats were thought to be witches' familiars. When they burned the witches they burned their cats along with them. Because of this there was a shortage of cats in Europe, and because of the cat shortage, the rat population exploded. This is what allowed the Black Plague to spread throughout Europe like wildfire, since rats and their fleas were the main source of the virus.

No. One should note though that all the oddities and problems with witches started out in Protestant countries not in Catholic countries.

im catholic and thats not true. People made all this up just to make us seem "wierd". Thsi may not be the answer you were looking for but it is the truth.
