Tetany is a disease process comes about by a particular bug that lives in dirt. When I say bug I mean germ. This germ likes places that are dark, warm and lack oxygen. When you step on a rusty nail, it creates just such an environment and the bug is happy because it can live and flourish.
When the bug reproduces and overpopulates in your body it creates a toxic byproduct that is poisonous to the nervous system. You get something like a charlie horse all over your body. This muscle contraction is very painful and eventually will effect your breathing muscles and you will suffocate to death.

You mayget the disease Tetanus caused by a bacteria that usually attacks open wounds. tetanus can be dangerous because it involves paralysis of some muscles in your body, including the muscles that help you breath.
If you got your Tetanus toxoid booster within the last 5 years, there is no need for a shot now. But if you are doubtful, or don't remember, or you think that you have a really big wound, better get the shot!

Most important DO NOT PUT hydrogen Peroxide on the cut! Peroxide closes the wound to the Air and that provides the bactieria the ideal place for it to grow. Wash with soap and hot water real well and if you have not had a tetanus shot in 12 months go right away and get one!

Not much. Tetanus is in dirt and animal droppings, not rust itself. Wash the area frequently with just antibacterial soap and water, and bandage loosely, so the air can help heal it. If it starts to swell or get warm, then you need medical assistance. Tetanus is a bacteria, so it is treated with antibiotics.
I've never gotten a tetanus shot for a cut, because I'm allergic to vaccines, and I've never had a problem with an infected cut in all my life. I like to use dish soap to wash my cuts with, because I figure if it gets forks clean enough to put in my mouth, it'll get my cuts clean. I mix it with water and get it to foam up, just like you do for washing dishes, and then wash the injured part.

It would be best to go get that tetanus shot. Are u worried about a shot? Don't be, they really don't hurt.
Besides, even if the shot does hurt, it's way better than getting some nasty infection that will hurt you way more than that one little shot.

Tetanus occurs when a wound becomes infected with bacterial spores of Clostridium tetani. These spores germinate, multiply and produce a very powerful poison which affects the muscles.

Yeah it turns into LockJaw which there is no treatment for and you die from it. Check with your doctor to see when your last tetanus shot was. You may need to get on ASAP.
