If you are certain that the sore throat is not strep or some other severe infection, proceed with the following. (It may require a visit to the doctor to make that determination, as the typical white spots don't always appear prior to a positive strep result.)

Cut a lemon into wedges. Periodically, through the day, extract the juice and pulp with your teeth and swallow it. (It's actually quite good!) You can then toss the twist of the rind into your glass of water for some extra zing. Do this frequently, so that within the course of the day you have consumed at least one whole lemon. More is better. The citric acid helps your body to heal itself because of the lemon's antiseptic properties. You can also toss additional wedges or slices into your drinking water, as well. Not only will your sore throat be better in no time, if you continue this practive daily and if your resistence is normal, you'll find that it will be a long time before you have another sore throat or cold.

Now, my mother swears by this old tradition which came from her mother (who probably attained it from her mother born circa 1870 in Georgia). This is atrocious, but it works. In a small saucepan, just barely cover a smashed clove or two of garlic, a couple of slices of onion, and a few tablespoons of sugar (believe it or not, the sugar is supposed to make the rest less fowl). Bring it to a boil, and allow it to slightly thicken. You may pour it through a strainer (unless you can stomach consuming the solids). Allow it to cool, and then toss it back like a shot drink. Not only will it soothe your throat, but it will also deal with any other infective ills in your body. Both the garlic and onion are blood purifiers, with antiseptic properties. This also helps break a fever, if you drink it and then wrap up in a heavy comforter.

The third comes from my good friend, who was born in West Virginia. The first day, take tablespoons of straight apple cider vinegar often throughout the day. After the first day, just take one tablespoon just before going to bed. This method adheres to the same principles as the others. Continue to do this until the soreness is gone. Thereafter, you may choose to have a tablespoon every night before going to bed, or only use it when you're already ill.

In any event, hope you're back to normal soon!

Drinking plenty of water is a great starter....homemade chicken soup is the oldest and greatest of home remedy's.Especially if someone special makes it for you . Zinc will cut the healing time.
Gargling with warm salt water helps to relieve swelling and getting plenty of rest, to allow the body to heal.Warm lemon tea is good too, use honey to help heal the throat too.But if this persists longer than a week especially if you develop a fever , you should go to your family Doctor, you may need attention & medication.
And do add lemon wedges to your water & tea... but never just eat them plain, as my Dentist will tell you , it removes the enamel
from your teath , leaving you open to cavity's & destruction of your teeth.
Good luck & hope your feeling better SooN !!
Sincerely , Jeannie ~

The best way is to drink warm water till it gives your throat a warm feeling, have one tablespoon of honey three times a day, also drink warm milk added with sugar and a pinch of tumeric it will surely help, and last but not the least consult a doctor.

Cure? - time.

Relieve? Lemon tea with honey, lozenges and you already read the warm water with salt thing... those throat sprays are not good, avoid them. If you must though, try 'Buckley's cough syrup' it tastes TERRIBLE, but it works.

-I am a vocalist, I use the above all the time, I even keep the fixings in a suitcase for backstage in case before a show.

use throat lozengers and cough drops.. and gargle with warm salt water or make a hot toddy with a little whiskey , water and lemon...also the doctor can prescribe some medicine called linocane for sore throats....and it just numbs your throat...if it persist then you should go to the doctor...you can also suck on ice chips and it helps a little...

What works for me is to get a cup of hot tea, put in a teaspoon or two of honey and a menthol cough drop. Mix it all together and there you go.

If you are losing your voice also - take some honey in a glass and add vinegar (as much as you can stand) warm it up and drink. Tastes horrible but works.

It depends on what's causing it. If it's from a cold, then gargling with salt water or Listerine will help. If it from Tonsilitis or Strep Throat, you need to see a Dr and get on antibiotics.
