It's just a curiosity question, I'm not trying to sound race obsessed or anything, I'm just interested in genetics. I get pretty tired of people asking me, "are you part white?" just because I have straight hair. I have a little bit of Apache and Sioux on my mom's side but that's not where my straight hair is coming from because my dad's side is all black (as far back as he can trace) and my aunt from his side has straight hair too. I'm just wondering, does straight hair necessarily mean a person can't be all black? Just because the straight hair phenotype is less common in the black gene pool doesn't mean it still can't happen, right?

It couldn't be from any of my closest relatives, because faithfulness is a strong virtue in my family. But it's possible that if I trace far enough back in the family tree, there could be some white on my dad's side. Owners forced slaves into prostitution, and blacks and whites had affairs because they weren't allowed to get married. Descendants of slaves can't trace their ancestors all the way back, because their records were forced to be obscured. And I agree that literal purebloods don't really exist, it's more of a hypothetical question.

I'm from Southern Africa, and historically, we have the 'curliest' hair on the continent. In West Africa, the women do grow their hair rather long, it is braided most of the time, but when you stretch it out it is down their backs (contradictory to what people think about Africans and their hair). This is usually due to the humid equatorial climate and the shea butter and other 'hair secrets' that they use (oh, i lived in West Africa for 5 years). As for naturally straight hair? That may have to do with your Native/Caucasian ancestry...and the length could be a combination of all that makes you.

Your question sound a little difficult and simple at the same time. If you fly to a Caribbean Island or close, let say Florida, you will see coconut trees all over. The opposite is true if you go North like Chicago, Minneapolis etc. Different climate, weather, soils etc.
There are several basic races in the world: White, yellows, Copper,(That's your) Black etc. and something very similar happen. Black Race comes directly from Africa. few snow or not snow at all, very hot weather, more capacity to absorb heat and if I'm not wrong, Long straight hair is a good protection for cold weather, mother nature see no need to provide long or straight hair to Black people for the mentioned reasons.
Also eating patterns, type of food etc. are responsible for genetics. If you see a Black Guy with long straight hair, Ask Mike Jackson, he knows how to do it..
Hope at least give you some starting clues.

I have been doing some family research and I have found that there is no "pure" blooded anything. We are all mixed with something other then our dominate race. I don't know about genetics so I can't say that it is or isn't possible for you to have straight hair but I would almost bet that if you look, there is a white person in your family history, not far back. Not that any or your grandparents cheated, but it isn't something that would surprise me after doing the looking I have done.
Like someone already said, it doesn't matter. I have to agree that you should just tell them that as far as you know, you are not white and go on. If that doesn't work for you, ignore them.

Africans have curly Afro hairs. And Blacks are from West Africa where they sold as slaves. The chances of your aunts on your dad's side are pure "black" seems remote.
IBM has a genetic or DNA test for $99 that can help you trace your genetics. IBM is sponsoring the test to trace the whole human population origins.

The problem with tracing your family tree is that you have to assume that everyone in your line was faithful. Go back far enough and eventually one is going to be slipped in by the milkman. As to heredity, anything is possible. Every possible parent carries dominate and recessive genes so you never know for certain what the result will be.

wow i am grasping at straws here. but i would not be able to agree with that ther is a full black bloodline now, that was from the original agenda of species.. they moved grew tall hunted moved with the foodstocks crossing many cuntries, breeding along the way, surely the pure origonal is dyed out now. we are in the homosapien stage when we have been through a neadathral and a cromagnum.. so the bloodline when your looking to it... goes beyond humans as we know them today.....
i dont think there is any full bloodline , also to keep it pure would imply inbreeding...
oh gross... accept that your ancestors were the real deal and you have evolved since then..

It is possible but in this age can any of us be sure of genetic purity? And more important, why should we care?
Just say that you don't think you are and go on.

Why not. There is such a thing as a recessive gene. Maybe you have one of those.
