I rather favor Harry's thinking when he suggests a strict and unrelenting regimen of beer and pretzels. The whole idea here is to ADD to yourself- not to diminish your body! So get as many calories as possible, preferrably with carbohydrates. Calories are your friends.
Too much exercise, particularly weight-lifting, will certainly use far too many valuable calories in pointless, tedious and quite possibly painful pushing, pulling, etc. Also avoid jogging. Never walk when you can drive, or even be carried. If you must walk, at least ambulate with the assistance of an enthusiastic hound.
Unfortunately, though, even with that sage advice, I fear that your expectations may need some adjustment, as summer has already commenced in this hemisphere. Please disregard this caveat if you do indeed reside in the other hemisphere.
Good luck, in any case. And get plenty of rest! Showing off is hard work!

Working out.
If you want to slim down, lose fat, tone up.. you gotta do alot of cardio, and low weight lifting with alot of repetitions. Also if you're trying to slim down, you'll want to eat about 4-6 small meals a day, spaced out evenly from morning through night. What that will do is speed up your metabolism and help you burn off fat at a more rapid rate.
Lifting heavy weights with less reps give you shorter muscles, but they look bigger. Lifting lighter weights ith more reps give you longer muscles that makes you look more slim. I like a combo. Use the downhillsystem. I use it on basically every excercise i do. The downhill system is like.. 5 sets, starting off with weights you can life 10-12 times, then you go down to 6-8 reps, then 2-4. Remember to take one or two warmup sets first with around 20 reps. This is the number one training thing to gain nice muscles. Not to big, but still extremely visible.
There's three basic types of weight lifting, heavy, medium, and light. Heavy weight lifting is for pure muscle mass gain without worrying about muscle toning, it just puts loads on and I don't think it looks to good :P For this you choose a weight where you can only do 2/3 reps, that's it. You do that say twice a week. Medium weight lifting is what I do and it uses a weight for which you can do 8-12 reps before your muscles fatigue, and 3 sets of these. It puts muscle mass on but is far more toned and useful muscle growth. Light lifting requires a rep system of 20+ reps and a number of sets depending on how much endurance you want your muscles to have. It's often used in conjunction with medium lifting purely for toning once you put sufficient muscle mass on.

Best way
1. Good Eat, Cut Carbs, but not completely, Up Proteins, Reduce Fat intake substantaly. You body will learn to run on lower Carbs, which in turn do not get the chance to turn into fatty tissue. Your increased amount of Proteins will help your muscles heal faster and the reduction of fat will cause your body to using the fat to be used for energy instead of carbs.
2. A balanced Weight Training Excercise. In a 5 day regimine, if you work your biceps on day then also work your calfs, the next then work on a different area, like your abs, and gluts. Basically rotate the parts of your body allowing for 2 - 3 days of rest for those muscles allowing them to heal and get bigger.
When you lift weights what you are basically doing is ripping those muscles, which after wards new mucsle tissue grows on them on the rest days, then returning to them in 2 -3 days will allow the freshly new tissue to settle and rip again, and so on and so forth.
You will also want to add cardio like mid week and on the weekends. Sunday will be your day of rest.

It's June, Honey, "before the summer" is long gone. do push-ups for arms, sit-ups for abs, and squats for legs. Try jogging or running, this gives you pretty great leg muscles in a pretty short period of time and gets you overall leaner.

Weight lifting. Work each muscle--like curls for biceps, extensions for triceps, pulldowns for lats, presses for pecs, etc. lots of books out there, with good pics showing proper form.

Strength train or lift weights. Eat a lot of protein and if you can stomach it, drink a glass of raw eggs in the morning.
