Predestination refers to how God predetermines people's paths in life.
However, it does not mean that only certain people can be saved. God desires all to come to salvation (2 Peter 3:9) and was the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2).
The key is in Romans 8:29, "Who God foreknew, them he predestinated." God only predestines people based on the choices He knows they will make.
So God knows what everyone will choose (since His foreknowledge is perfect), and then predestines people based on what their choices will be. It's quite a deep subject, hope this helps.

I'm not complete should. Yet this may help.
Predestination is the the doctrine that sets forth where man will spend eternity. "Pre" meaning "before" and "destination" meaning the final resting place that man will reside. So to predestinate is to know before where someone will finally rest.
God knew (before the foundation of the world) where the elect (God's chosen people) will have their final resting place, (when they die) in heaven.
Some think the doctrine of predestination means that all activity of man, while he is on this earth, is planned out and executed by God upon man. This is usually called total or absolute predestination. This interpretation is in error. Man is responsible while he is on this earth to obey God's commandments. To say that "God made me do it" is to make God responsible for man's sin and the author of sin.

God predestined before the foundation of the world who would be His chosen elect. Out of the old testament, it shows clearly who was chosen by God. Seth, Enoch, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, Elijah, Moses, etc. In the new testament the selected were the Apostles, Paul (especially Paul ), Mary(mother of Jesus), Joseph, Martha, Lazarus, Mary magdaline, etc. God is still choosing His elect, even today. And they are those who worship in spirit and truth. The Bible says, many are called, but few are chosen. There have been many called, as there are over 2 billion Christians in the world. But how many of these worship in spirit and truth? How many of these people has God chosen to be His elected saints? FEW. All those chosen by God will share in the thousand year millinieum with Christ. I am sure that Mother Teresa will be one of them, even though I am not Catholic. All the rest will be raised after the thousand years are done, as told in Revelations.

It's hard to understand, God is sovereign, but the Bible still tells us that we have a choice. But if God were easy to understand, He wouldn't be much of a god, now would he? I don't know about you, but I don't want a God on teh same level of intellect as me, you know what I mean? God's ways are higher then our ways. But He does tell us to evangelize, so we still need to tell people no matter what we think the Bible says about predestination. Nice to know you're reading the Bible and trying to learn more!

I am a Christian.
You are correct in that the Bible does talk about predestination. Look at like this. Because God knows the future He also knows the decisions that you and I will make. To us it is the future, to Him it has already happened. So in God's eyes it is predestination, but it also includes man's free will to decide for himself.

I don't think so. As I see it, everyone is predestined to become a Christian and then they are given the choice of whether they will or not. Since God is not bound by time, he already knows what choice you make. But he allows you to make the choice of whether you become His or not. Being a Christian is every person's choice and it isn't decided for them.

Predestination means graced. Christians are graced or gifted to live in Christ.
Is everyone invited to salvation? Yes.
Is everyone free to respond? Yes.
Does everyone go to Christ in the same way? No
So predestination cant mean something done to us in a way that destroys free will. God wants our willing co-operation.

I wont get in to all the grafic wording, I will try to be simple about it.
your parents choose to have a baby (you) and from the day of conception God knew your entire life before you lived it.
He knows every thing you will do and not do.
So... needless to say, he knows rather or not you will be saved ~ a christian.
When you look at it this way it is easier to understand, then to try and figure out why God choose your fate.
He didnt choose it, he just knows what choice you will make.
