I owned a petcare business... This is how I started it up
Design a cute flyer advertising your services. Go to your town hall. Ask for a list of residents with dog licences. (It will cost you about ten dollars for this list) Send out the flyers to those people (stamps are expensive - but if you get one or two customers per one hundred flyers you send out - it will pay for itself very quickly)
Drop some of the flyers off at local grooming salons, pet supply stores and vets offices.
Does your town have a community newspaper? Call and get rates on the classified section - if its a good rate, put out an ad.
I charged $10 for a half hour dog walk or kitty visit (a kitty visit included playing with the cat, feeding and cleaning out the litter box) For housesitting (3 walks a day, meals, taking in the mail/newspapers, and spending the night) I charged $40 a night)
Good luck!

I would suggest looking into pet groomers or ask a vet or local pet shop to let you post a flyer or to pass along your info. You dont' want people who have a mutt tied up out back. What you want are the high end pet lovers who think of their pets as children. Go hang out where they go and pass out a business card. For starters you can make your own with a good Word program and some Avery business card sheets. Good luck wtih it and happy summer.

You could start by making up fliers with your name and information about the service you want to offer. Also include a price or a price range to work with. Pet sitting is mostly done in the house of the owners of the pet. You may need to look into getting bonded. Good luck.

If you are talking about going to peoples homes while they are out of town to care for their pets you can start by getting some references. By references I mean letters of recommendation regarding your dependability, character, and consistency. You can request these from previous employers, people you have babysat for, done yard work for, teachers, counselors, etc. People have to really trust you to give you access to their home while they are not there. You can also do some volunteer work for local animal shelter to show potential clients you are able to properly care for animals. To get clients I recommend looking for bulletin boards to post your services, maybe at pet stores, grocery stores, vet & grooming offices, and maybe flyers or posters in your neighborhood. Good luck!!

You can go to your local pet groomers and ask them to post a flyer or leave business cards at their establishments.

Talk to your vet. Put nootices up in his office if he will let you. Get recommendations from your friends and one from the vet. People will need to know that they can trust you. You can also try being a dog walker.

It is best to get insurance as there are many opportunities for things to go wrong in this business. You can contact Pet Sitters International for further information.
