Yes, many people do NOT understand that religion and spirituality is NOT the same. For that matter being religious and being a Christian are NOT the same either. And no, it's not an example of the "religious right".

Yes religion is a group of people following certain prophet, certain book and certain rituals.
Relgious may be fanatics, hateful, arrogant, and imperfect
Spirituality is our next evolution from relgion. spirituality deals with the spirit and god directly.
A spritual person may not follow any religion...still may be great spiritual
sprituality tends more towards harmony, peace, love and creation
There are a few examples of spiritual person on YA..but rare
A day will come when spirituality will replace all religions and the human race would be eligible for divinity...when ? God knows!!

I don't know if they are the same or not, but I can tell your they are both worth about the same. Nothing!!! Being spiritual is to have a set of ideals that one believe in. Religion on the other hand is having a set of rules that you follow. Neither one will save you. What you need is a relationship with God!!! With that relationship you get to know his wisdom, his love, his peace and the security that he gives. Now when you have that, you have something real and of true worth. You get that relationship through his Son, Jesus.

Because there not the same thing. You can attend a church all your life and be religious not be spiritual. Some people go because they feel its the right thing to do but are never touched by god and allow themselves to have a relationship with Him

Spirituality and religion are two totally different things. One can be spiritual and not believe in anything Godly. Our world is full of people today who are "spiritual" but couldn't tell you what they believe in.
Religion on the other hand...has set doctrines (teachings), a God, a savior, etc .. Those true to their beliefs KNOW what they believe in and why..

You are right but not the religious right and they ignore my right to express my religious beliefs because they believe that anything left of far right is wrong. Furthermore, the religious right believes that if you aren't far right you belong in hell, not here.

I understand what you are saying completely. I'm a Christian, I am also spiritual, but I'm not religious.

in addition to Justin J, religion is laws and a set institution. there's nothing wrong with organization and community. but it should not replace or come close to your individual relationship with God. Your spiritual health should influence your participation/attendance in religion. Faith should never become stagnant, boring, unchanging, unloving, stale, and legalistic.

They probably don't ... but then again to some the two meet.
Sometime i have spiritual ponderings and then they are too spiritual for philosophy but i can't be asked to have to wade through the bible bashing and quotations so i don't bother asking.
