I'm car hunting, and I need a good, reliable car. I live in the mountian area and need something that will get me up and down major hills w/out a problem. Is the Sable a good car mechanicaly? If there are problems, what are they and are they cheap to fix?

You best shy away from this car. You're bound to run into people who don't have problems with it simply because it and the Taurus were Ford's big selling midsize sedan. However, I run into more people who say they'd wish they'd never laid eyes on theirs. Transmission problems? Definately. The risk is too great for me to even give the go ahead for cheap transportation. Compared to other cars like the Accord, Camry, or even the Grand Prix and Monte Carlo, I don't think it holds any kind of real value past the time it takes to pay one off.

Mercury sable and Ford Taurus are fine vehicles.The front wheel drive is a plus when you start up those hills in snow.

Yes but buy a 99 and up model for best results. Take this from a man thats workes on Fords for over 15 yrs at a Ford dealer.

In my opinion, no a mercury sable is not a good car. I have never seen a sable with more than 70K on it that was still in good mechanical condition

Not really, the earlier models were troubleprone along with the Ford Taurus.

no they are trans handicap that and the taurus and escort and umm the contour
