Yes, it can happen with rapid weight gain - one reason pregnant women often get them. Except celebrities - have you noticed that? Because they know (or have someone there to tell them) that the way to avoid stretch marks is to keep your skin moisturized ALL the time. Concentrate on the areas where you've already got some, but add areas like the back of your knees, and the back of your upper arms. Just keep the moisturizer coming and you should be okay in the future. Sorry I can't help with those you've already got, but at least this will keep them from getting worse.

Not everyone has the same density tissue. I have had a child and no stretch marks, my son has stretch marks from lifting weights. Go figure. Some peoples' tissue stretches and contracts more readily than others'. By the way, I've seen super sexy one piece swim suits that reveal only what you want to reveal. Shop around a bit. A bikini is not the be-all-end-all. :-)

"Most girls and women have stretch marks, which tend to show up on the breasts, thighs, hips, and butt. Many women get them during pregnancy. And while they're more common in girls, guys can get stretch marks, too.

... the good news is that current fashion favors many styles of bathing suits that also just happen to hide stretch marks. "Boy short" style suits (popular with many athletes because they don't ride up when a person moves) work well for hiding stretch marks on the buttocks and upper thighs. And because many swimmers prefer high-neck bathing suits, which can hide stretch marks in the chest area, there are usually lots of styles to choose from."

Maybe you just grew faster than they did. Talk to your doctor and check out the link in "source" for more info. Think about health before fashion. If doc says to take off weight - do it.

Try cocoa butter it sometimes softens the marks. If you are really self conscience they do offer laser treatments that will remove them entirely. They're kind of expensive and painful though. My advice is just to love yourself and your body. Stretch marks are not a big deal. You have to be really close to see them typically and if a guy is that close than he's not gonna care.

Don;t worry about the stretch marks, you can still look great in a bathing suit. Try a tankini, it is a two piece piece bathing suit but the top covers the tummy.

Usually you get stretch marks if you rapidly loose or gain weight. The other people could have gained the weight slowly overtime, and you may have gained it in a shorter time period.
