Most airlines have in-flight entertainment that can entertain you at least some of the time. When it's not showing videos, for example, U.S. Airways displays trivia from the board game Cranium. On my round-trip from Washington, D.C., to Las Vegas recently, this, my laptop, my iPod, and a magazine were able to keep me entertained the whole way. If you're traveling outside the country, try to see if you can book your flight on a Boeing 777, which has seatback video in all classes with various channels. Domestically, JetBlue offers DirecTV service in all flights. If TV isn't your thing, load your iPod with free podcasts from the iTunes music store depending on your interests. Not only was I entertained on my most recent trip, but I was informed as well.

Well, for a seasoned traveller (over 300 segments last year), I can tell you that sometimes long airplane rides can get boring. I'd recommend sleeping on the flight to make time pass. If you can't sleep on flights, I'd recommend bringing a good book along or maybe an iPod with some of your favorite tunes loaded on it.
If you don't have an iPod or anything else you want to do, pass time by chatting with whoever you're sitting next to (as long as they don't mind). When my ipod broke last year, I passed a lot of flights by just chatting a bit with the people next to me. You get to learn a lot about that person, their family, friends, career, education, their love life (yeah its happened to me once).
If you can, shoot for an upgrade to first class. Granted its not as good as it once was, you'll get comfortable rest, a peaceful rest, and maybe even nicer flight attendants.
Enjoy your flight! It will go by like
THAT!

It would be helpful to know your age. Generally the following items are great to take on a long flight: playing cards, puzzle books, coloring crayons and sketch pad, hand held computer games, individual DVD players, music, books, magazines, blow up dolls, sock puppets, rubber bands to annoy the other passengers, sleeping pills, whoopee cushion, silly putty, your sweetheart....happy trails.
