You might not die from cutting. It's possible you could accidently cut something you didn't know was a major vein or artery. To those who are less understanding, they don't exactly see why you would want to cut yourself, and for many people it is scary, and creepy.
I have a different perspective, however. I haven't cut on myself for at least 2 months (a major victory for me, considering how depressing and sad life has gotten - or has seem to have gotten). I had in fact made it 2 years without a single incidence of cutting. That was after coming from cutting 4-5 times a day. It is difficult. Something that made a large difference in my life was a place called the Utah Boys Ranch. Here is a website: http://boys.westridgeacademy.com/ (and I'm listing it in the sources as well). It wasn't easy, but living with self-mutilation isn't either. It is also expensive without insurance, but you can find people who will help you. I have more memories from there than any other place. Whataver you do, seek help, especially from God. God loves all of us, and allowed his son, Jesus Christ, to suffer all or our pains, both of sin and of daily lives. He suffered all things that ever happened and ever will happen of every person who has ever lived or who will ever live. 'God loved us so he sent his only begotten son; that if we believe on Him [and keep his commandments] we might not perish, but have everlasting life." You cannot do it on your own; do not reject the help of your family and friends. Further, don't ignore the help of an Almighty and loving Father in Heaven. God bless you; you seem more in need than I do.
One more thing: it won't be easy. Thomas Paine said "What we gain too cheaply, we esteem to lightly." Feeling good and overcoming is something not to be esteemed lightly.

Further to comment for some of the answerers on this page, cutting is an addiction worse than alchohol or drugs. No offensse or anything, but please don't say "Just stop cutting", because it isn't that easy. It's like saying to a heroine addict "Just stop doing drugs," or to a smoker "Just quit smoking already." It isn't easy. I cut myself because I hate myself (that IS the right tense - I still do, although less) and felt I needed to be punished. I felt somewhat relieved of burden - if only for a while - when I cut myself, because the abuse from my father was being manifested; and to me, the abuse was love. Hitting me and hurting me was the way I grew up knowing my father loved me. Saying "Just stop cutting" isn't going to help, and has helped little if not never in this sort of situation.

You will not die from cutting - but whatever's making you cut may kill you. Keep up the therapy, you have more than 2 litres of blood! I think it's about seven. But you need to find out and deal with what's making you do it. Could be related to the food issues too. Good luck, and if your therapist isn't working for you GET A NEW ONE. Take care.

Hi,

Cutting is a serious issue, and its good that you are receiving counseling. Keep doing, and also look for other options, it never hurts to turn to God, he has all the answers! You probably will not die physically because the body can recover, but you might suffer mentally. So involve yourself in activities, which will give you a more optimistic view on life. Also, go to the root of the problem, look for ways to resolve the issue which is leading to cutting. Good Luck

The solution, Dear, not to sound repetitive or anything, is to stop cutting, your only hurting yourself and other people. Just pray. You have obviously gone through some tough times. You will be okay. God bless you, I'll pray for you every day.

Look that is not very healty what you are doing. Before they ever new about this cutting disease, i used to do it. I am over it now and that is due to being on zoloft. I had gone through like 7 years of pain, counseling, and just being stupid. Its not worth it. Life can be so good. Just get a grip. Get some meds.

Cutting leaves scars and it is important to figure out the emotional reasons you begin to cut on yourself. Stop cutting and I know that sounds too easy. eat protein and iron rich food for the weakness. If anorexic or bulemic...again this is emotional reasons somewhere down deep that need addressed. I care about you and no matter how simple or silly find a reason to want to get better and make different decisions that may not lead to not eating, throwing up, and cutting. God says you are the head not the tail...He loves you very much and created you to succeed at whatever you want. It is an unconditional love. He has plans to prosper you not harm you (Jer 58). Please discuss your concerns in counseling and see a physician for help.
Take care

You need to cut a major vein to bleed to death, so unless you slit your wrists you wont die. however, cutting can lead to sueiside, so you should try to stop. a way to relieve stress in a healthy way is talking it out or channeling the energy into either creativity (like writing, drawing, playing a musical instrument) or into exersise (like a sport or phisical activity you love to do). a way to make you happier is by teaching yourself a new skill, learning, teaching others, and by setting aside time to relax. a good way to relax is to lie flat on your back and take deep breaths. it also helps to listen to calming music and burn relaxing insense. take yourself on an imaginary trip to an island or any other place that makes you happy.
as far as the cutting goes, keep a log of when you cut, how you felt before you cut, how you felt right after you cut, where you were when you cut, and what you used.

dial 911, you can talk to a counselor you can relate to. Do not think that you are just stuck with one. The right person will help you through your troubles. If you are not taking medicine, contact a psychiatry, this will really help.

Also see if you can go through group therapy or chat room on the Internet with people your age.

I lost my brother and sister, I know exactly what you are feeling.

Writing questions on here will not get you the proper help. If you've been to counseling and that is not helping either find another counselor or have your self admitted for mental health treatment. I don't think that you'll die from loss of blood, but you could die from suicide.

As a mother of a child who cut herself, I was stunned by the whole idea of it. Fortunately she had a good counselor who worked with her and we did consider having her admitted to a hospital. In the end we put her on meds to control her depression and she's just completed her first year of college at a great school and is doing much, much better. Middle school and high school were Hell for her but she's blossomed wonderfully in college.

I wish I could say I was a wonderful support system for her during this time, but truly the whole thought of this overwhelmed me as a mother and all I can do is thank God that he answered my prayers. I had no experience on how to guide my beautiful daughter thru this.
