Questions need to be asked and answered. Is she getting the Chow only because the other one is lonely? You cannot replace a decesed dog with another one only because a dog is lonely. Remember these are dogs, not people. The dog she has will mourn for the lost dog in it's own way and time. This is not a good time to get a "replacement" dog. I think you are thinking of getting a puppy, this may not be a good idea. The dog that is left behind may not be accepting to the new pup. Give the dog she still has time to adjust to not having the other around. How long this may be, no one knows for sure. Let the owner of the Chow that is alive bond and be with this dog. It sounds like you are trying to get a dog for a dog. This is not the answer. How old is the dog that is survived? If it's like a 5 or 6 year old or older, then for sure bringing a pup into the house is Not the answer. It would be like bringing a baby into a couples house the couple being 60 years old. They are done raising kids, and sometimes don't have the stamina or the patients to be with babies/children on a full-time basis. Samething with dogs. Dogs make up packs, each having their own place within that pack. A pup would be taken care of by it's mother and the pack leader, not the dog of the pack that is older and has no tolerance for this type of behavior. Please take your time in this decision, and ask yourself honest questions as to why you want to get a pup/dog so early after the last has passed on. Trust me, the other dog is not lonely if the owner is being the pack leader and fulfilling the needs of the pack.
