I don't think it is rude as much as dangerous. If I am in public, I always keep one ear free just so I am aware of my surroundings.

Wearing you ipod in the grocery store is fine, as long as you are respectful and remove the ear pieces when talking to people or checking out. Also, try not to dance or sing while listening to it, but other than that, there is nothing rude about wearing an ipod while out. As long as you do not disrupt others with loud music or anything like that its fine.

It's no more rude than using a cell phone during a banking transaction or something like that. Ignoring the person servicing you is rude in and of itself. If you're shopping and wear an Ipod then it's cool but remove the headphones when it's time to interact with the cashier please.

I do it all the time when I am shopping for groceries. I find it perfectly acceptable and it doesn't bother anyone. Just as long as you're not listening to the iPod during the checkout process and you'll be fine!!!

iPods are for anywhere. I think that you should only not use it in the checkout line. Then, it seems like a distraction.

Yes, as long as when anyone talks to you (at check out, etc), you remove your earphones to be polite.

Why not? It's not as if you're being served by someone when you're getting your items together, & are being rude by ignoring him/her.
