I have had this problem for years. Other times I have just stopped it but this time I can't. I pick skin off the top of my head pretty much all day. It grows back really fast and in no time there is more dry skin to pick off. I try not to do it but it gets itchy and I also just feel so compelled to do it.
Also, whenever I do a lot of things eg. put my socks on, I will go to put one on my left foot and then something in my mind says don't do that or else something bad will happen so I put it on my right foot. It happens with other things too.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

I had this problem from age 8- 21. It started with one little raised spot right where my bangs joined into my scalp, and by the time I finally stopped, I had 3-4 places going at one time. I don't know why I started and I don't know why I stopped. I used to peel large pieces of skin too. It was nasty. I know EXACTLY what you are going through, even if some of it's too gross to tell about.
First, go see a dermatologist to see if you really have a skin problem. I think my problem was dermatology related but spun out of control with my OCD. Then go see a psychiatrist to see about your OCD. It sounds to me like you have a pretty good case of it as well!

it sounds like you have a serious case of OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is usually treated with therapy, and in some cases a prescription. It is not an uncommon disorder, many people suffer from OCD. Some cases are a little worse than others. But, don't fear, completely treatable.

As far as your skin it could be that you have a fungal infection in your scalp similar to athletes foot. A dermatologist can prescribe medication to help you with this. As far as your socks go I would say that you are "awfulizing" a situation that doesn't exist. You need to think about something other than putting your socks on while you are putting your socks on. Most of the things that we do everyday are done subconsciously. Your reactions while driving are not completely conscious activities. Example: You are driving down the street and see a red light. Your reaction is to stop your car but you don't think about raising your foot and depressing the brake pedal and how hard to push down. This is done subconciously. Seriously if you ever have trouble with things that should be subconscious coming into your conscious thought you can develop anxiety disorders. The best way to train yourself away from this pattern is to focus on how you are breathing. Concentrate on taking slow breaths slowly in slowly out rythmic breathing. Surprisingly thinking about how you are breathing can take your mind off just about anything. You just have to practice it regularly.

It's a sign of obsessive compulsiveness. Maybe same as someone who feels the need to sanitize everything. Apparently yours may turn into a health hazard. Having your head peeled every so often may turn it raw and infected. Go see a doctor if you're bothered by your behavior.

it sounds like you have dandruff possibly, and a slight bit of obsessive compulsive disorder. It may be worsened when you are nervous. I would get a doctor's appointment to discuss medications you can take for that, because there are some out there that can really help!

GO SEE A DERMATOLOGIST NOW!

This sounds like a serious case of Exzema, but don't take my word for it!

Toodles.

Actually, it really isn't really all that serious. I have had this habit for years, it doesn't caused anything bad to happen.

I have the same habit but it is on my legs etc. Every day I think to myself if I just let the scabs heal they will go away. But then I pick them off. So they never get to heal.
