I don't know how you can compare these breeds to each other. They are all so very different. Golden Retriever for brains. Hound Dog for the best personality and the Beagle is out. Beagles are boring in the dog kingdom and not too bright either.

depends on what you are willing to deal with. All three are great COMPANION dogs. Meaning, they need a log of human interaction to feel safe and loved. Beagles are short for a reason. They were originally bred for hunting small animals that burrow into the ground. Hence, they are excellent diggers and they WILL dig regardless if you have wood, dirt, carpet or tile. Golden Retreivers are "americas dogs". There are more golden retreivers registered in AKC than any other breed. They require a lot of excersise from a young age or will be overweight. Great for playing catch and going into water. Hound dogs are hunters. They were bred for catching racoons and squirels, etc. They also need a lot of excersise from a young age. Overall, all three are great dogs. It depends on how much work YOU are willing to put and spend with them.

Ummm "Hound Dog" is not a breed. Hounds are a group of dogs that traditionally were bred for the purpose of hunting. Hounds can generally be split into two categories sighthounds and scent hounds. Sighthounds rely on very acute eyesight and quick bursts of speed to catch prey and include greyhounds, whippets, and afgan hounds. Scent hounds are dogs bred to sniff out their prey and include bloodhounds, coonhounds and basset hound. Beagles fall into the hound grouping, specifically they are scent hounds who originally were bred to hunt pheasant and quail. The other breed you mentioned, Golden Retrievers are considered part of the sporting group.

As to which is cuter, I don't think you can beat sighthounds for their elegant look.
