I have noticed an absolute lack of proper grammar and spelling on this question site. What is wrong? Did some of you sleep through English? What's the deal? Is it so hard to use spell check, or a dictionary if you can't figure out how to spell something? Come on ladies and gentlemen, let's get with it.

Not to sound like a pedantic jackass, but the lack of communicative prowess of this generation is absolutely depressing. I'm with you on this one.

Yes there is a complete disregard for proper use of language and spelling and grammatical errors are absolutely ridiculous! With online chatting, text messaging, etc. a whole other 'language' has evolved and for some reason younger people seem to think it's the norm. It's absolutely disheartening to see an email or an online post from an adult whose spelling is tragic at best. Makes you wonder how these people function on a day to day basis without anyone having said anything to them thus far?

I think that it is a two part problem:
1) the Internet has it's own language, such as 'brb, l8ter' among others
and 2) many users on the site are younger, and just do not care.
Me, I try my best to use correct grammar and spelling, but I still mess up at times (even with the spell check!)

Oh, yeah. The bastardization of the english language has become worse of the past several years. So bad in fact that if you speak correctly people look at you as if you're sthe one that's not making sense. Also, spell check is part of the problem because as long as the spelling is correct(ed) the context of the sentence may not make sense.

I don't think it's just this site. It's the world in general. We live in a fast paced society that's more into using abbreviations and misspellings than taking the extra two seconds to hit the spell check button.

I'll drink to that. I'll drink to anything....

No, seriously this topic gets on my very last nerve! Even where I work, where all are college grads, and working for the most prestigious brokerage company, mistakes and errors are rampant.

Live by the golden rule: At the bare minimum hit the spell checker!!!!!

I totally agree with you. Sometimes I feel as though I am a little snobbish or something when I look at these horrible spelling errors

I agree there is a serious problem. People spend way too much time chatting on MSN- "C U L8TR"

and yet, when they have to write an essay they are clueless.

The key is proofreading- read what you have written. If you cannot read it well, odd are no one else can either.

I asked a question along the same lines a few weeks ago and got some NASTY answers (obviously from some folks who had taken it personally). I totally share your frustration.... it's just plain laziness, ignorance and stupidity, I guess.

I agree. Spell check makes writing very easy if you aren't too lazy to use it.
