I mean POSITIVE cultural revolution, of course. You think events like September 11 would have been a turning point and inspiration, but it only moved people temporarily and then returned to the usual. Who's to say our country has no hope of improvement? Our empire is relatively a baby compared to other civilizations who have lasted and/or are still around who have been around way longer than we have. We should have a lot of years ahead of us for change. BTW contrary to popular belief, the Roman Empire did not fall because of moral decay, but for the opposite reason. The Roman Empire was more moral and spiritual at the end then at other times, which is ironically part of the reason why it fell because their empire ran on immoral and greedy means.

No smartass or gloom-and-doom answers please, and atheists, please keep it polite. I don't need more negative energy.

I've heard different versions of how the Roman Empire ended. I'm not sure which one is correct, but nonetheless, America should take a hint and not let history repeat itself. Ignorant people love to label concerened folks like me as a "conservative Christian", but me wanting to fix the moral decay in this country wouldn't make me a conservative Christian, it would make me a progressive Christian.

Not too long. I read all these things move in a cycle and the next turning point is thought to be some where around 2012. Some think this is the year of the end of the world but I think its just another turn in the great spiral of time.

I am a little insulted that you singled out atheists to chastise for politeness, perhaps you are ignoring all the rude religious people on this message board? There are plenty, believe me. Besides, why would an atheist in particular be rude about this question? What does it have to do with God? Or religion? (why is it in this category again?)

Anyway, I don't believe that the US is going to collapse any time soon, I think like you that we do have the potential of a long stay on top, like the Roman Empire I suppose. Why do you say that the Roman Empire was more moral and spiritual at the end? I know they adopted Christianity as the official religion, but that doesn't mean there still weren't weeklong parties with vomitoriums to purge when you've had a bit too much, not to mention incredible greed for land that really Rome couldn't handle.

Will the US improve? I don't think so, I think we are what we are and if we change and improve in some ways there will just be other things to fix. Will we be around for a long time? Definitely. But remember that Rome grew and shrank during it's long tenure as leading empire of Europe, and I'm sure if we are around as long we will as well!

When the Caesars were called Emperors the Roman civilization began its downfall. They threw out the Greek alphabet and the Roman number system and were in a chaotic mess for three hundred years at which time there was no longer a Roman Empire left. We too have had a turning point but confusion doesn't reign. Actually technology has saved the day and we are getting better organized. Many strange concepts are emerging as they public becomes tight and secretive. Secret groups are all busy rejoicing in their abilities to exist in the free world. The second vocabulary is perfected and social pressures are increasing . The result of this cultural revolution will go I don't know where. But the trusting post war days are over. I think the safest place to be in life is owning a place of your own in this great land and keep to your choice of friends only. Get it.

Check your history books. According to William Gibbons author of the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, it WAS because of moral decay that the Roman Empire fell.

I do hope there will be a cultural revolution that takes place in America soon. Although we have voted for a conservative President for two terms in a row I believe our country is very socially liberal. Liberalism breeds the death of a society with it's acceptance of homosexuality as the norm, the slaughter of innocent unborn children through abortion and the elimination of religion (specifically Christianity) from our society. If liberalism thrives in our country then we will see the death of our society and ultimately the untimely end of the USA.

It's hard to say exactly when the turning point will occur, but it will probably follow a series of events. We are definitely getting closer to something. I think the big turn will happen when the middle class finally realizes that all that stuff they bought did nothing to make them happy or feel better about themselves, when the upper class finally realizes that there is a lower class, when the lower class gets fed up with how they are treated, and when the nation realizes that the U.S still stands on its racist foundation.

Notice that the majority of the upper and middle class in the U.S. is made up of white people? Notice that the lower class is mostly black and hispanic? People's place in society has nothing to do with achievement or knowlege. Our nation built on "equal rights" still is stuck in the racist social structure.

Also, our nation has a consumerist culture. People believe that if they could just buy the right car/clothes/house/stuff that they will somehow feel better about themselves. People's self esteem is so low.

Fear of the unknow is also at an alltime high. Did you know that there are thousands of people who are U.S. citizens who cannot get a job because they don't have the right paper work? Because of the Patriot Act, you can no longer legally get a job unless you have a state ID. What do you need to get a state ID? Money and a copy of your birth certificate. There are thousands of homeless people who don't have their birth certificate and thus cannot get a state ID. What do you need to get a copy of your birth certificate? A state ID. Catch the problem? I recently heard of a homeless man who could not get the antibiotics he needed for a spider bite because he didn't have the "right papers." What is he supposed to do? Let the bite get more infected than it already is?

I could go on and on.

I give it another five or ten years. Then it's time for the development of the new social order based on true principles of Liberty and Justice for All. The Libertarian Party will gain in prominence, at least enough to force the Republicans and Democrats to take them seriously in legislative matters at both state and federal levels. Once people recognize that liberty can work -- that the invisible hand of the free market is a much kinder, gentler hand than the visible fist of the bureaucracy, we will elect a Libertarian president, and have a whole new perspective. Then let creativity, productivity, and culture blossom like the rose!

I can't see it happening anytime soon. There would have to be a great awakening and turning from the horrible sins we have committed against a holy righteous God. I don't see that happening right now. Some people don't even know what "repent" means. We are a country of great wealth and prosperity richly blessed by God. We have freedom to choose but slowly that freedom is being taken away by supposedly tolerant people that think that using the name of God is being intolerant. Does that sound ironic? If we ignore God and seek not his face, then we will be destroyed and we have been forewarned time and time again.

Acutaly the reson the Roman Empire fell was they where more conserned with making themselfs happy than protecting themselfs from attackers. People laied around and relaxed and parttied rather than fighting for there country like they where paied to do and when they finaly took up arms it was a little to late.

well.. curious so atheists are not polite.. (hmm any studies into this?? b'for reaching this conclusion)
Not any soon.. that is my prediction.. the more offensive and big brother role american society plays, the more it will get secluded from ROW. But if WW 3(yeah.. I am sorry I didn't want to be -ve but given the facts.. being realistic is what I can be) happens then US is likely to loose a lot.

As for your Roman Empire comments, maybe that was the case for Constantinople, but not for Rome itself. And as far as this goes, I don't think people will genuinely turn to God as a whole...maybe many will, but not our society.
