I view AVI files with WMP version 10 all the time.

Download or re download either version 10 or the beta 11 version. It will come with the necessary codecs for AVI files.

I recommend using VLC (VideoLAN Client).

"Despite what stated above about codec and video player software being different things, there are some software packages that wrap both, video player and the most common codecs into one product.

As the "easy way", we focus on a free (and open source) video player called VLC." -- Afterdawn.com (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_play_avi.cfm)

Read the entire article; it is a beginner's guide for understanding and playing AVI files. It gives step by step instructions on how to use VLC and it even talks about other ways to play AVI.

The direct link to download VLC is at: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
