Am I a snob for expecting people to write well and spell correctly? And please, it isn't the one or two word typos that bother me. No, I am bothered by the stuff that looks like it was written by Mongo from "Blazing Saddles."

No it does not, not in the least, it tells me that you are an intelligent person. I like you a lot. Call me.

AHHH-hahaha! *wipes away tear*
God Bless You!
Thank you!
Exactly!

No, you aren't a snob, and if you are, then I am, too. My mom was, I think, 2 classes away from a second major in English, so I've always had good grammar.
I try to ignore it, which isn't hard until that point where you no longer know what the person was trying to say.

It's very nice to know that I'm not the only one out there who notices &...well, feels the same way about it!

Nope, I don't think it makes you a snob.

It bothers me too, but not real bad.

I think it bothers me because I like to see things done RIGHT regardless of whether it is spelling or seeing a car parked between the lines so the next guy can park and have enough room to get out of his car.

Some people feel it's not important to sweat the small stuff. I wonder sometimes if they are right and I am wrong.

Perhaps some people may be using English as their second language, and others may be too used to texting. The problem is that some of the questions are ambiguous, so the answers may not be useful. I don't mind the odd misspelled word, but sometimes you need to ask another question before you can answer. I don't feel that snobbery comes into it at all.

You're not a snob at all. In a way, I don't blame the question submitters....in the larger sense I blame our educational system which has produced so many graduates who never were forced to learn correct grammar and spelling, and a system that accepted mediocrity and handed out diplomas to them all. Sad.

BINGO. I'm with you pard. It's irritating. Unfortunately many don't care or don't know better. Yahoo is a world site. For many people here, English is a second language.

Phonetic spelling is pervasive across the net. Its ease of use guarantees not only its survival but its likely proliferation.

No, you are not a snob. And from your question, it seems you have managed to decipher their language. Maybe you could help us out with a crash course in Gibberish? Because I have an *awful* time trying to understand a lot of the people who post here.....

(Maybe instead of calling it Gibberish we should call it Mongo-lian?)

To a point, I think I agree. I think if it is unreadable or the person spells everything wrong, it is really annoying. But if they just make a couple small mistakes(as many people do when typing), it doesn't bug me. I don't really think it makes you snobby, maybe a little uptight. Read those terribly spelled questions/answers, and thank God for your erudition.

If it makes you a snob, I'm a snob right there with you. I can't even figure out what 75% of the questions are trying to ask.

I don't think it makes you a snob. I feel exactly the same way; it really worries me that so many people really have no knowledge of spelling and proper grammar anymore.
