To those of you that your DDS is telling you a few times a week is good enough for flossing, guess what find a new doctor. You have to floss everyday, once a day is fine, but a few times a week is not going to get the plaque out from in-between your teeth. Once that plaque turns into acid, the destruction begins. Also not getting cavities is not the only point to flossing, it also removes the plaque and bacteria that cause periodontal disease. The teeth, gums, and bone all go together to make up a healthy mouth. Getting cavities and not taking care of them, you can lose your teeth. Having periodontal disease where the acid eats away at the bone that holds your teeth in your mouth and not taking care of this, guess what you can lose your teeth. Stop thinking of just cavities as the only problem with not flossing, periodontal disease and infection of the mouth is also a problem in those that shy away from flossing. If you want a healthy mouth then you must floss (properly) everyday!!!

You should floss your teeth at least once a day, before bedtime is a great time because you are removing the plaque in between your teeth that has accumulated throughout the day. I think that if you cant floss once a day the next best choice is every other day. The point is to get the plaque out from in between your teeth and away from the gum line. Because it can cause gingivitis which is inflammation of the gingiva, aka: gums. If this plaque is not removed it continues to sit there on the gingiva and causes a whole sleugh of other problems!

My DDS said that just flossing a few times a week is good enough. I would guess that once a day would be sufficient

Every other day. A sign in my dentist's office once read, "You don't have to floss ALL your teeth.....only the ones you want to keep."
