i've been "off" sugar for about 4 weeks now, but I still get these awful cravings and I don't know what to do to make them go away. I usually just drink a ton of water when I'm feeling the craving. I know they've said sugar is like a drug, but now I believe them! btw, I'm not "quitting" sugar for weight management, as I am not over-weight and I am very happy with my body. I am more quitting it because I know it's not good for me, and I hate being addicted to something.

any suggestions on what to make the cravings go away?

That's my weakness too

-Chromium piccolinate seems to help some

-staying off artificial sweenters helps

-eating 6 small, well balanced meals is good

-staying off all refined carbs helps, stick with whole oats, brown rice and the occassional 100% stone ground whole wheat wrap.

-watch your startches, potato, corn, peas, carrots, Legumes can be starchy too, but have a reasonable GI

-keep sweets out of your house, out of your desk and don't go near the water cooler when the enablers are bringing in their leftover birthday cakes

I can do really well as long as I don't go near the sweets, but as soon as I get a taste, watch out, that box of cookies is in serious danger LOL

Check your blood sugar. Cravings could be a sign of low blood sugar or blood sugar that is going down. You could also try to distract yourself with another activity.

keep your blood sugar level normal by eating foods that are not from a fast food joint or freezer. Eat lots of veggies, use spray I can't believe it is not butter and saturate steamed veggies, eat lots of food that came from the ground, not a machine. Cook chicken breasts ahead of time, keep lots of fresh healthful food on hand so you can chose the right thing. Do not get too hungry so you need the fix. Other than that..stay away from pot.

Good luck and take care.

I hate cake, candy and chocolate. My weakness is kahlua and cream!!!

This may not help, but it might make you smile: Oscar Wilde said the only way to vanquish temptation was to yield to it!

Seriously, can you allow yourself a little bread and honey now and then? Orange blossom honey is a natural treat!

Eat something w/protein like a small handful of healthy nuts. I also like apples w/natural peanut butter.

Tea w/splenda is good too.

Have you tried eating a sugar-free candy? My Mom is diabetic and eats sugar-free candy to scratch the itch.
