I don't know japanese, but try out this site. It's got lessons with phrases phonetically spelled and written in Japanese. Good luck!

Cho - stop
Dojo - school

Would tell you one to ten but don't know correct spellings.

Learn most of this in karate, and never really paid attention to the spellings of them all.

You could do a search for japanese to english translations.

Can you communicate with her parents/caregivers? I would start with them. Go to your local library for languages on tape. Also try your local university for Japanese classes and/or assistance. I hope this works well for you! For written translations of other languages., try www. freetranslation.com (I use it to communicate with a German penpal).
