Certified Angus Beef(CAB) is not nastily from Angus cattle. There is no verification of where the cattle have some from and it is not grass fed or organic. It is just a marketing tool and it has worked. The following are the qualifications for CAB:
Eight carcass specifications were developed by CAB to ensure that every carcass earning the Certified Angus Beef ® brand offers consumers the same quality eating experience. To receive the brand cattle must first be at least 51% black-hided and meet these criteria:
-Neck hump of less than 2 inches
-“A” maturity (9-30 months)
-Modest or higher degree of marbling
-Medium or better marbling texture
-USDA Yield Grade (YG) 3.9 or leaner
-Moderately thick or thicker muscling
-No capillary ruptures
-No dark-cutting characteristics
51% black hide means that it does not have to be Angus (Black Angus are all black besides very small portions of white.)
In other words I would pay more to get a Prime or the same to to get a Choice piece of meat. You're just paying for the name brand if you buy CAB products. If you can't find graded meat it is a nice alternative since you know it will be at least average Choice.

I love to cook cook 'certified angus beef' and get most of my info about it at this exellent site..(great recipe's to).

Angus beef has developed a reputation for good quality. However, “Angus” simply refers to a breed of cattle, and it’s not a guarantee of quality. The AngusPride brand is certified by the USDA and less than one in five Angus-type cattle meet the demanding standards to carry this brand name. In addition, AngusPride is produced by Cargill Meat Solutions, a company that has been recognized repeatedly by the beef industry for operating some of the most technically advanced processing facilities in the world.

Certified Angus Beef ® products are evaluated under the most rigid standards for superior color, texture and marbling. In fact, less than 8% of beef meets the brand’s strict quality specifications.
The secret to the brand’s incredible taste is marbling, the small white flecks found inside the lean meat. Certified Angus Beef ® product specifications demand a higher degree of marbling, which increases beef juiciness and flavor. This higher degree of marbling does not increase cholesterol and only slightly increases saturated fat.

I believe it means that it is certified that it is Angus beef. If it was to the quality, it would mention the type of quality they were certifying.

the first answer is correct, but the "angus beef" term is most used for marketing to get you to buy named brand beef. in my oppinion the grading is the most important ...prime, choice, select, and the rest..is pretty much dog food if that good. buy choice, the price is better than prime, and occassionally you will get a piece of prime that was mislabled.

Certified, is this certified organic beef? If it is then this simply means that the cattle have been brought up without growth hormones, antibiotics, chemicals etc... This is the best meat you can get, and it is really healthy for you.
