The ASVAB is much much easier than the GED.
Don't sweat it just do your best and if the GED was easy for you, you should do very well.
As some people know and some don't (ryan) 25 to 35% of people with their diplomas Can't pass the test for the General Equivalence Degree.
I was shocked to find that out when I took mine as it was so easy.
( I have both my diploma and my GED so I could graduate early)
Good Luck and thanks in advance for your service.

I have never known anyone to fail the ASVAB that passed the GED. Amazing how many High School Diploma holders can't pass the ASVAB, but GED holders can, and GEDs are considered lower than Diplomas. GED testing should be a graduation requirement. There is no passing score because it is an aptitude test that determines what you are good at learning. I encourage everyone to take it, whether they care to join the military or not.

The military consider certain AFQT scores (overall of the 2 parts math and 2 parts english) as passing for enlistment. The lowest passing score is a 16. However, the various branches set a minimum that you must attain without an exception or the limited categories being opened. Pretty much anything over a 90 will qualify you for almost anything in the military. Remember though, only the Army guarantees EVERYONE an MOS (exact job) before enlistment. If you hear we can try, or you can....forget it, you are open contract. How do you think the Air Force get smart people to run the Dining Facilities-they make 90 AFQT holders Cooks.

The minimum scores (without exceptions) are:

Army 50
Air Force 40
Navy 35
Marines 31

Currently, the Army has opened the category of 31-49 until the end of the Recruiting Fiscal Year (11 Sep 06). After that, it is subject to be closed again. Also, the Army has opened GED's for enlistment until the same date.

The ASVAB is a test that will determine what field you are best suited for by the answers you give in different catagories. You will be timed on each test, and some you won't be able to complete(just not enough time allowed). Go into it with an open mind, and do your best. There really isn't a pass or fail, it is a test performed by the armed forces for placement within one of the branches (ie. army, navy, air force, etc.). Be prepared when you take the test to be bombarded by different recruiters from all branches. I know this as for I scored in the top 1% in mathematics for the year that I took the test.

To give you a break down, the test is similiar to the GED, but has other catagories like mechanical aptitude, electronics, math, and others like it. I don't remember the exacts as for it has been years since I have taken it, but I do remember that it isn't all that difficult, just on a timed basis for most of the portions of the test.

The ASVAB is simply an aptitude test to see what areas you excel in. There is no passing or failing. You are put in percentiles and compared with other people's scores who also took the test at that time.

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).

The ASVAB is a multi-aptitude test which is given at over 14,000 schools nationwide, and maintained by the Department of Defense. Your scores in four critical areas -- Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge (see below) -- count towards your Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score. The AFQT score determines whether you're qualified to enlist in the U.S. military. Your scores in the other areas of the ASVAB determine how qualified you are for certain military specialties. Score high, and your chances of getting the specialty/job you want increase.

the ASVAB is much simpler than the GED it deals basically with common sense and has a section that identifies what your best job rate in the military will be. its like an IQ test but its an afqt armed forces quotient test Good Luck Hoorah!

Okay, i see you're on an educational high, aren't you?.....well, I never took the GED (I gradumeated wif mi klass), but I did take the ASVAB, which I believe stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude and Battery test.......basically, the military wants to see how smart (or how dumb) you really are..........
