Cavity Filling

It won't really hurt. It depends on how deep the cavity is, whether they will have to numb it or not. I had a small cavity and no numbing was necessary. Some dentists will use some kind of gas to make you more relaxed and won't need to give you a shot of Novocaine. Most fillings are now a plastic type compound. Best to avoid the metallic fillings...they're now finding some of them are causing problems

The only thing that hurts for a cavity is the shot in the beginning there is a little pinch and then some pressure which hurts a little. And then you can't feel anything. It is a little annoying afterwards when you whole face is numb for like 4 hours 😀

Getting a cavity filled doesn t hurt at all! I ve had it and I was really scared but when it was all over I knew how silly I acted. Since I had a really small cavity he only pulled gel on my gums and gave me laughing gas. Honestly after that I didn t remember anything once I started laughing so much. BTW laughing gas can make you tell some secrets so watch out for that lol. Anyway they drill It out which when they were done I didn t even know I guess the gel really works. The only bad part was that I couldn t have any food after. But just so you know it dosen t hurt at all!

I'm nine and have a small cavity that will get filled soon and my dentist explained that they put gel on it and give you a numbing shot if it's a big cavity.... So I guess it depends on the size. I hope this helped!

Little stick for a numbing shot then it won't hurt after that. If it starts to hurt they can give you another shot, which you probably won't feel at all. Pressure should be the only thing you feel.

(Had my share Of cavities filled)
good luck!

All depends on the size of the cavity. The drilling that is usually required for fillings is what hurts, not the filling process itself. If they're small, they might not require any drilling it all which could be why the dentist said he won't numb you. Dentists tend to air on the side of caution - if he said you don't need novacaine I'd take his word for it and not worry. But if you're nervous, ask him how much (if any) drilling is required. Sounds to me like you've got small cavities that need little or no drilling so you don't need novacaine. Time is also dependent on the size. But if they're small and need little or no drilling I'd say 45 minutes or so for the two of them.

the dentist will smear some topical anesthetic on the jab-site to numb it a little, then give u a shot of local anesthetic. it won't hurt after this, you'll just feel coolness (due to all the water!) and lotsa vibrations.

the dentist will then drill out the cavity and ensure that there's no more idecayed parts left, then dry the area totally. then he'll fill it with metal (amalgam) or composite (white/tooth-colored) filling, and wait for it to set!

no worries, just sit back and relax! isnt paintful. if it is, raise yr hand to tell yr dentist and he'll give u some extra anesthetic.

You got it! They numb your gums, then give you the novocain and then go to work! It doesnt hurt at all.

Your dentist may use an air abrasion technique in which case there are no shots and you still dont feel anything!

Either way, you'll be fine! No worries!

(There was someone who said they wish they could be put under anesthesia for dental work. Well, you absolutely can! You have to pay an anesthesiologist, but it's worth it if that's what you want!)

(And just FYI: root canals dont hurt either)
