You need to report that your identification has been stolen to the credit bureau...that way they can let you know of activity of your credit file. This is something you will have to monitor for a long time. It is next to impossible to get a new social security number. You can take your birth certificate to your local DMV and get a new driver's license. Then when you have photo ID you can go to your social security office to apply for a replacement card.

The first thing you want to do is thank GOD that none of you were hurt, and that you can still recover from this; then call your local authorities, report your bank cards, call all the credit report agencies, consult your insurance companies which you have with your car or home insurance cause it will cover you, then call family and friends to help restore what you may have lost and let them know that noone was hurt. Giving them peace of mind will help you to have resurance that this was not good, it gave you something to think about, but this will pass and none of this has the value that your life has. God Bless.

Cancel all your cards. Close your bank accounts and get new ones. Notify anyone you do business with. Get a credit report. Get a credit report watch program from one of the reporting bureaus...

oh yeah...

CALL THE POLICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This should teach you not to leave your wallet in a rental car and not carry around your social security card.

I was a victim of identity theft through the use of my ss#, the person opened phone accounts and a credit card. The first thing to do is call the credit bureaus and put an alert on your account. This site has many valuable tips.

Call credit reporting agencies Experian and Equifax and have them place a lock on your credit. This will prevent anyone from opening unauthorized credit cards or open credit lines under your name.

Contct all your credit card companies, banks, loans, insurance companies, etc to put a watch on your file. Contact the credit bureaus (experian, transunion, and equifax) and tell them to freeze and a fraud alert on your file.

Call your bank and make sure they know. Identity theft is rampant. You might also attempt to change your SSN.
