To teach your dog to crawl, keep a bag of her favorite treats handy so when she starts to do it on her own, try to get in front of her & hold a treat out - down low to keep her low, and start repeating the cue you want to use, like 'crawl.' Keep repeating it while she's crawling and give her the treat BEFORE she stops.

If she's lying down, you may be able to initiate crawling by doing the same thing - holding a treat out down low in front of her and start repeating the cue again, 'crawl', in a coaxing sweet tone of voice.

Be sure not to scold her if she doesn't do it right, negative reinforcement will likely just confuse her. Plus, since you're not trying to get her to stop doing something a negative isn't really needed (if ever).

Obedience school is for manners, not 'parlor tricks' like this. A really good book for training dogs in general is "Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson. It really helps to understand how dogs think.

Think of a sign you can do with your hand as a signal for your dog such as scratching the floor with your nails or something like that. Get a long stick kind of heavy but not so heavy you cannot lift it. A broom or mop should work. Does your dog listen to other commands? Tell your dog to lay down. Once they are down, place the broom on their back between there shoulder blades and make the scratching motion or whatever sign you chose and say crawl or creep. The first couple of times he will probably try to stand up. push down on the broom nicely but with force and say no crawl and make the sign. At the very first inch he does it the correct or close to the correct way praise and reward him with a tidbit of something. Continue doing this for about a half hour each day. If he is a smart dog he will get it by the end of the week.

The fact that your dog already shows the behaviour on her own will make it very easy for you to teach her to do it on command. First, you need an incentive, i.e., something that your dog really enjoys, like a treat or a small piece of cheese/meat. Have your treat on hand while observing your dog. When you see her crawling, say "DOG'S NAME, crawl!" and immediately give her a treat, then continue to praise her with "good girl!" etc. You need to say the command as close as possible to when the behaviour starts, and present the reward immediately after she has performed it correctly, so that your dog will come to form an association between the command and the behaviour. She should learn: "When I hear, 'crawl', and I move towards my owner on the floor this way, I get a treat, and that makes me happy!" Keep your speech very simple. She will learn faster if her name and the command are the only things you say during the behaviour. But praise her all you want once she has gotten her treat.

I taught my puppy with the aid of having him go in to a down role first. Then I took a deal with and scooted it from his nostril throughout the floor pronouncing "crawl". I also located it can be less difficult when teaching them on the carpet so they've some thing to "take hold of" onto.

Hello,
Understanding how to train your dog and how to correct bad behaviours is very important. That's why I suggest to follow a good training course. There are plenty of books and training material. One online course I recommend (I like it because it has hundreds of videos) is http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=572

It helped me a lot.
Good Bye
