Not at the current time, however come then end of 2006 you will need one it you travel via air or sea to Canada or Mexico. The end of 2007 all ways of travel into Canada and Mexico you will need one. Check site below! It would be better for you to have one any way to cross, less hassle. As one poster stated, its easy to cross over into Canada, but coming back across to America, its harder for an American to regain entry then one from another country trying to get in. The custom people here in the states will allow terrorist, murderers, etc to come into the USA, but give a true American citizen a hard time. Retire military get treated like crap, I know I was drilled when I came back from a visit to friends in Canada. Spend the money now on a passport, use it both crossing over to Canada and especially coming back to the United States.

It is not hard to get to Canada. It is harder to get back to the USA. It will help if you have one. I was on military leave (US Army) and it was questioned wether I would be allowed back in the US after I visited Bannf.
