It depends on what sort of laptop you have, but more importantly, what sort of needs you have for the webcam. I am very pleased with the Apple iSight, but it only works with Macs — if you look at my other Answers, you can tell I'm quite into Macs. Fortunately for those with Macs, and unfortunately for the majority of computer users, it's one of the highest quality webcams available.

For PC-compatible webcams, I checked out CNet.com's review section, and sorted based on highest review. It looks like you get what you pay for, as the highest-rated cams go for $80 or more. It appears that Logitech is either exploiting a new niche market for laptop-friendly webcams, or is trying to create such a market. They have a QuickCam for Notebooks in both normal and Delux configurations.

Probably your best bet would be to go to the link below and do some cross-comparisons. The link I provide shows cams sorted by CNet review rating (which doesn't always reflect community rating, so note that). The CNet website allows you to check several models and compare them.

Good luck!
Eric
