Im now reading in Genisis chapter 3 about adam and eve eating from the tree of life..verse 16 " unto the woman he said, i will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee"..

What is God saying here? Is it because eve took fruit from the forbidden tree that women must have painful child birth, and that it is the man who enjoys the conception and the women must obey and be there to serve the man?

Am i understanding this right?

Basically yes. He also cursed men as well in that men must toil in the earth to produce food.

In reference to serving the man, the man must also serve his wife as Jesus loves the church. This is from Ephesians 5:25-30. Pay special attention to verses 28-29. Men are instructed to love their wives and provide for them the same way that Jesus does for the church. An impossibility for men, but it is the goal we aspire to.

You know how in school, when one person does something, the whole class has to suffer because we are peers? Well, we have to suffer because of Adam and Eve's mistakes. They had to carry the load that they made all of mankind suffer. Women's punishment was that we have to have periods and pain when we bear children, and, no, men aren't the BOSS of us persay, but when you are married, his decision on choices is the final decision. Men have the punishment of taking care of the entire family financially and with hard labor, but some men today get out of working that hard... You don't have to SERVE the man, that's what people misunderstand. But when a man is out working all day, to make the marriage a partnership, a woman could cook and clean for him... or however you want to work your marriage out.. It's basically a partner thing, the two talk it out, and decide what works, and the decision goes to man about what the final say is.

I know this was long, but i used to trip over that until I got what it meant. Hope you got what you need!!

Yes, women were to be the childbearers and men were to work, and if you think that is malocentric you are fixiated on modern society.

Until the 20th century being a working man was horrible. They worked for 12 hours or more a day typically unlike the usual 8 today, and were practically estranged from their children especially daughters.

As for women, they were not forced to be so-called housewives and expected to be homemakers. Rather, with the husband never there, and women not expected to work it was neccessary for women to be housewives. We are very fortunate that in modern society men have a chance to spend more time with their wives and kids. Women are also fortunate that they have the option to work, unfortunately it is now becoming a neccessity and more and more roles are becoming for women only, such as teachers, vets, and secretaries.

First of all, I enjoyed my children being concieved!
Yes I believe this is why we have painful childbirth and periods. I believe that the sorrow in conception refers to the ovulation time, and the cramps associated with it.
But the man didn't go unpunished either, he was the one cursed to work the earth and the dust of the ground.
The woman was created to be the help meet for the man, that didn't happen because of the fruit.

before eve took from the tree of life she was her own person, without sin, gods creation, just as Adam. But, eve was given to Adam by god as a companion, so you could say that women were made to be man's companion. after eve was deceived her punishment was painful child birth, woman where to desire only there husbands, and the husband was to look after the family and to make the decisions. the woman where to be submissive. keep reading and you ll will continue to understand. as for the guy above me Adam and eve where not told to procreate until after they where kicked out of the garden of Eden so i do not understand how they multiplied prior to god commanding them to do so. Adam and eve had pure bliss in the garden of Eden it was spiritual and the need for fleshly fulfillment did not come until after they where kicked out.

Kind of.

"i will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children;" means that having children will HURT.

"thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee"..means that instead of being EQUALS, men are made to have headship over their wives.

good job!

oy, not at all, the "pain" that was being spoken of was "increased" I will greatly increase your pain. She already had a since of how much pain, because she had already given birth, this pain was given to Eve ALONE. God did NOT say, "i will give you pain in such" HE said, i will greatly INCREASE. Pain is a natural function. The other pain referenced is pain in rearing actually, as in raising. This was given to Eve as a prophecy that Cain was going to kill Abel. Cain and Abel at this time were already born, as chapter 4 states that Adam had already known his wife at this point, and she concieved Cain and later Abel. Cain and Abel were both acustomed to the Garden of Eden life style. And upon all of them existing the Garden, life became hard, Eve was warned of Cain killing Abel, and it later happened. But by NO means should one think that they are suffering the pains of Eve. All the pains you suffer, increase those in your mind 100 fold, that was Eve's pain, roughly.

Women were made from what? a Rib. where is the Rib? It's at your side. women are equals. God didn't take a bone in front of or behind, He took it from the side.

Thats why women have 24 ribs, and man has 23 ribs :)

Yes...in a manner of speaking. It would be painful childbirth and the woman would only find a feeling of self-worth in the man...
